Open Gameday Thread, 4/7
San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants, Apr 7, 2008 1:35 PM PDT
Although the decision to make Barry Zito the opening day starter was silliness upon silliness, at least there's no chance the starting pitcher for the home opener won't get booed off the mound in the third inning.

Opening Day!!!!!!!
Now it counts. Let's go Cainer. Some good news is that the Padres had Peavy and Young pitch against the bums so they will not pitch this series while Los Gigantes will pitch the likes of The Big 3 - Cain, Lincecum and Sanchez.
Dude!
EEEEEE! for archives and articles, Almost EEEEEE! for current stuff (with "current" really meaning "most recent," which a lot of the time means "way long ago."
Prediction:
Due to defensive misplays, the Giants somehow manage to score 2 runs. This series.
Neither occurence happens this afternoon.
Derin McMains had five fingers, but he only used three.
Maybe
This is when the real season, the real opener, and the real lineup starts?
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
The annoying Runing Tally Nobody Really Cares About
Thru six games:
2008 Giants - 12 runs
1963 Colt .45s - 18 runs
(The 1963 Colt .45s scored the least runs in a 162 game season in the NL, 464)
"Candlestick made me a man." - Will Clark
Giants currently on pace for...
324 runs
54 home runs
27 wins
Over or under?
2008: My previous assessment may have been overly optimistic.

Maddux
Owns us and always has. So, I'm not liking our chances in this game.
Career 2.90 ERA against the G's in 326-some innings pitched. I think I heard a statistic that he hasn't lost to the Giants in 5 years? Not sure where I heard that.
http://www.baycityball.com
Look at that small sample size. It's only, like 50 starts or something.
"Candlestick made me a man." - Will Clark
what's the over/under on Maddux's pitch count for today's complete game shutout? 83?
Bonds stands alone.

Will we get the #1 line-up today?
Bochy should play his idea of the base line-up for the home opener.
Like my diamonds? The Devil himself gave them to me...
What number-one lineup?
Last I heard, Winn is out, having bonked his ankle with his bat, and Rowand is still out with hurty ribs. The rest of the team just plays like it's hurt.

Winn is a late scratch in this game, too. Roberts is taking his spot.

7. Aurilia 1B
8. Bocock SS

OK, so
Roberts has a career OBP of .340, and Lewis (including his time in the minors) has a career OBP of .380.
Roberts is batting leadoff because.....?
And Bocock
has a OBP over 500 so far this season...

by FairweatherFan on Apr 7, 2008 12:53 PM PDT up reply actions
Which is why
I was counting Lewis's 2200 MiLB at bats too.
Roberts hasn't gotten on base at Lewis's clip in 8 years, and that was in AAA.
At least Lewis did it in AAA in the last 2 years.
I agree with you...
My point is even Bocock would be a better choice.
But Bochy would say "Roberts is a lead-off hitter"
He's all about roles, ya know?

Self-Abuse
You take it, and you take it
And you learn,
You learn all too well,
So that later, when there's nobody to dish it out,
You can punch yourself in the gut
And take it some more.
The best part is,
With training and practice,
You learn your own soft spots and weaknesses,
So that you become your own best tormentor.
Double up over the pain and swallow.
It'll still be there tomorrow,
Waiting for you.

hey i'm watching the gamecast on mlb.com, is maddux getting a much bigger strike zone or is that just my imagination.
according Miller and Flem, it's pretty consistent for both
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
it's getting bigger but
reynolds knows the game is over regardless a pitchout might catch the corner if we get another baserunner

Tempting
But it was just my imagination

My adopted son Matt Downs. Bill Mueller without the two-flap helmet .
cain didn't know what to do when we scored in the first
thus the control issues

Me too
This has gotta be really frustrating for them.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball
I really think
That certain things really bother Cain, and end up affecting his game.
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
by FairweatherFan on Apr 7, 2008 2:41 PM PDT up reply actions
this could be the best part about having lincecum pitch the day after cain, cus if cain doesnt have a good outing, we dont have to wait long to see lincecum
how in the hell
do you get picked off by dave roberts

What is
this "Double Play" you speak of ?

Ask Rich Aurilia
he is intimately acquainted
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
The 1st base ump was diggin that dbl play!
I wanted to adopt, but all the good looking babies were taken
Seriously...
...the Giants should yank those commercials now. They're fucking embarrassing.
No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball

Didn't it used to be the Grand Auto Grand Slam Inning?
Do I still have to think Spee Dee Oil Change and Tune Up whenever there's a pitching change?

In other news...
Orioles sweep the Mariners, are now 5-1. So at least one team in orange-and-black is off to a good start.

this isn't Barry Zito in Cain's uniform today?

Well, now I get to continue debating whether having Cain on the Fantasy squad over AJ Burnett or another closer is a good idea.

this is the worst giants team ever
for all you giant fans who debated who should play in the outfield and who should sit, it is clear that they all stink. they are a bunch of jason ellison.
Oh , piss on Joe Crede.
I was catching the Sunday DET/CWS game on ESPN while driving to Vegas and Crede shat the bed defensively , two throwing errors to first.
