Winn, Yabu battling freak injuries
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3332526
Giants reliever Keiichi Yabu was hit across the eyes by an elastic band, right fielder Randy Winn bruised his right ankle when he hit himself with a bat and center fielder Aaron Rowand's ribs were still sore, manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday before San Francisco played the Milwaukee Brewers.
Yabu, wearing sunglasses in the clubhouse, hurt himself on Saturday when he was doing arm exercises at his locker.
Anyone find it ironic that "gamer" Aaron Rowand got hurt diving in the outfield? Is this our comeuppance?

The ironic part is that Ray Durham's glass hamstring is still intact
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
I am in my house tonight frantically trying to recreate the Yabu accident so I no longer have to watch this team.
Randy Messenger: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"
The good news is they're battling.
Last year they probably wouldn't have been.
GAMERS!
He is Vengeance. He is the Knight. He is Dave Righetti. PRAY TO HIM!
Yabu...
You knew when we signed this 39 yr old bum to a minor league contract during the off season , he would somehow manage to get on this team....I guess when Chulk comes back, Yabu Dabu is a goner...Hopefully Ray Ray will drive him to fresno and get lost on the way back...

My manager's a blockhead, he's a platoon advantage man,
My GM signs mediocrity whenever he can
They're both outmoded dinosaurs in humanoidal skins,
Too much impressed by RBI and starting pitchers' wins.
They gave me lots of innings though I was an RNI,
I guess they had confused me with another younger guy.
My future in the system was talked about and planned
But I gave it up to Chulkie with a Free Elastic Band.
I would actually attempt to unload Hennessey right now. Send him to the minors to straighten him out, or place him on the DL with a phantom injury if they have no options left. He's just awful. Actually the loss of Yabu is a big one because he's one of our prime mop up men. Most teams worry about overworking the setup men and closers, but this team's biggest worries is ruining the arms of the pitchers they bring into blowouts!!

True and Not Funny
I suggested in another thread that there needs to be a shadow rotation of mopups to pitch the last 4 innings. Fortunately, there are plenty of candidates.

Keiichi Yabu’s status for Monday’s game is uncertain after he hurt his eyes when the elastic bands he was working out with Saturday became unhooked and snapped across his face.
The blurred vision would be a bigger problem, but it prevents him from actually having to watch his team play. Giants fans everywhere will be trying to duplicate the effects by the end of the month.
If
I would have felt a lot better about Aaron Rowand's diving injury had he caught the ball. I said over the winter that while I thought he was an above-average outfielder, I didn't think he deserved the Gold Glove he won last season. But I have STILL been disappointed with his defense both in spring training and thus far this season.
And I'm a guy who LIKED the Rowand signing. Of course, I based some of my sentiment on the signing's setting it up to trade away both Dave Roberts and Randy Winn.
In context, it's hard NOT to like the Rowand signing, one in which the Giants risked only half as much on a guy who likely will outperform Barry Zito.
As for the Zito signing, was it called for by Peter Magowan -- and did its backfiring stick the Giants not only with Zito but with two more seasons of Brian Sabean, since Peter didn't have the heart to fire Brian after making the Giants' largest mistake of the last year himself?
If II
I disliked the Rowand signing. i was someone that wrote that the Rowand signing would only be okay IF he hit 30 HRs and the giants traded Winn and Roberts in the famed all CF mock roster posting. maybe i jinxed it but i wrote: "I didn't have cable or sportcenter (sic) this past season, so rowand is still a teens hr power guy and "web gem" concussion waiting to happen." i guess a gamer is reckless outfield hack. rereading that post reheated my irrational anger at this silly signing.
do you really think Rowand will outperform Zito? It is hard to compare a CF to a starting pitcher, but I'd have bet that Zito stays healthier and better fills out the #3/4 starter role over the course of his entire tenure, than a banged up aging Rowand in 4-5 years can do in the 5/6 spot in the lineup. Well, I would have said that in December. After Zito's first two starts and awful ST I am pretty worried.
Most of the articles written on the Zito signing seem to implicate Magowan. I would think that if Sabean was the "mastermind" behind the Zito signing he would have been fired already.
Randy Messenger: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"
The Zito signing is far worse than the Rowand signing. Not only is it longer for twice as much money, but there is nothing in Rowand's game that suggests he is not in his prime years. Zito looks done. Jeez, if we're knocking Aaron Rowand when he's hitting .385 he's in for a tough time around here!! Not only that, but the Giants were a horrible hitting team that needed a bat and he's better than anyone else in that lineup. Zito was actually signed by a team that didn't even have a need for a starting pitcher. It kills me as a Mets' hater to see this bum on our team while the Mets have Johan Santana. If we had left Zito alone last year, the Mets would have signed him and Johan Santana would be with someone else!!
Randy Messenger: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"
Yeah, I hate Rowand a lot less than I thought I would. In fact, I don't hate him at all. At least Rowand is useful, whereas Zito is just a franchise-crippling wreck.

Before
the season started, I predicted the Giants would go 74-88 this year. I realize that was wildly optimistic.
Eagerly awaiting Crazy Crab Bobblehead Night on 7/18.
while I'm down on the Giants, I still think that record is possible. Let's not forget we haven't even played a home game yet. If Sanchez finds himself we have three starters with dominating stuff, and a fourth (Correia) that's pretty good. We won't score alot of runs, but the speed combined with the decent bats of Molina, Rowand and Winn will score more than we've seen so far. I hate to say things like this because people call me nuts or "pollyanna", and when I say things like this I'm not saying we'll be good, I'm saying we'll be better than most think. 74-88 IS a realistic possiblity.

Gamers
hit themselves with bats, so they have to play hurt.
Bengie Molina: stretching doubles into singles since 1998.
Can't blame them really...
I'd try hurting myself too...just so I wouldn't have to take the field with all the other hacks our beloved GM has lined up for this year.
Adoptive papa to Omar...so basically I'm screwed.
