Jonathan Sanchez Puff Piece
There's a nice article about Jonathan Sanchez at Beyond the Boxscore (SB Nation Plug) and what perfect timing. He's starting today! So, let's say he keeps up his relative good stuff through most of the year, do the Giants trade him for porspects? Cain for prospects? Lincecum for all the gold in Fort Knox? Hold on to all three like a toothless prospector fending off claimjumpers? What's yer favorite old tymie saying?

I get Seinfeld, I just don’t really find it all that great. Part of that is that it was revolutionary at the time and I was late to the show, so what was revolutionary for you guys was actually just old hat to me by the time I started seeing reruns. But part of it is also just that my sense of humor is a half a wavelength off frequency with Seinfeld. I have real point by point reasons, but it’s probably not worth my time to go over them and I don’t have time right now anyway.
Simpsons, OTOH, I was on the same wavelength with for a while, and I’m inclined to give it the easy win for me.
If you’re asking which is the better show TODAY, though, I couldn’t possibly say Simpsons.

Sunday's Simpsons
was fantastic. While the ratio of great shows to poor ones has fallen, there are still a few episodes that keep me watching every weekend.

LOL I’m pretty sure I’m like 5 years younger than you, but Seinfeld is definitely one of my all-time favorites. I used to really like The Simpsons too, but I’ll take Seinfeld over it any day of the week.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.
Simpsons for me. Though I am appreciating Seinfeld more just for the pop culture impact it has had. Like a recent episode of The Office with Jan’s candles could have tied into the Serenity Now thing from Seinfeld perfectly. I can’t see myself sitting down and watching Seinfeld episodes, but I like to know where all the references come from.

My eyes are getting glassy…
This one's hard for me (insert Bocock Joke)
I actually stopped watching new Simpsons a few years ago. Seinfeld on the other hand I always check to see which one it is. If it is a classic one (Soup Nazi, Festivus, etc.), I will watch it. There aren’t that many classic Simpsons episodes that I would do that with except for the one where Homer eats the chili pepper at the chili cook-off, halucinates, and wakes up on a golf course. Still you do still get new episodes which therefore has the potential of a funny episode. I don’t know, I’m on the fence.

Hey – Didn’t you see what happened with the “Timmy Day” post yesterday. Giants lost (not because of Timmy, but still). Therefore let’s treat the starting pitchers of the day like everybody treats a pitcher throwing a no hitter in the dugout. Don’t sit by them, don’t talk to them and don’t write fanposts glorifying them (even if it is linking to an article glorifying them).

Movement
The article Cookyman posted points out that Sanchez has a ton of movement on his fastball and change. However, I can’t really see it since they have the camera positioned on the right side of the mound. I noticed that when we played in St Louis they had the camera directly behind the pitcher so you can actually compare the movement from both the left and right. We need to petition the giants to move the cameras or set up a second set to use for lefties.

Trades
One wants to trade overvalued assets for undervalued assets. Based on that, I would lean toward trading Matt Cain among this trio. Possibly Jonathan Sanchez if his value is high enough, since I suspect he will have arm trouble over the course of his career.
Lincecum and Cain are proven. Lincecum and Sanchez seem to have the highest ceilings. Cain and Lincecum appear to me to be the healthiest.
Matt Cain is a stud. I would trade him for Jay Bruce in a second—and I’m not as high on Bruce as many others are.
Incidentally, the time to trade Matt likely isn’t now. It will quite possibly be over the winter when he will likely be coming off a strong close to his season, as he has provided each of the past three seasons.
Possibly Jonathan Sanchez if his value is high enough, since I suspect he will have arm trouble over the course of his career.
Why? Because he’s smallish? Isn’t that the same reason everyone says Lincecum will have arm trouble?
Explain your madness!

as much as it pains me to say, if we were to trade one of the 3, i agree, cain would probably make the most sense. however, i don’t want to trade him unless it’s a deal we’re CLEARLY winning… I mean I want one truly great young position player or a couple of top notch prospects back for him. Anything less and I’d rather just keep our three headed rotational hydra of doom (please make a shirt, natto) intact for the future.

I don’t think SF should trade any of the three. Letting a 1-2-3 like they have develop and supporting them with just a league-average offense would instantly make them competitive.
It’s not going to fix it now, but it will pay off more later.
Then again, the current FO probably won’t be smart in the draft and free agency, so unless they’re canned, it’s all a moo point. Like a cow’s opinion.

I actually click away or (gasp) turn off the TV on Seinfeld nowadays.

I’m on Futurama like a fly on a pile of very hilarious manure.
Still watch Seinfeld reruns, but usually find something else if a Simpsons rerun is on. Great show, but not all that rewatchable for me.

Definately like Futurama better than Simpsons. Same humor but Simpsons is like Groundhog Day (great movie), techincally characters never progress from one episode to another, whereas Fry can save the world from giant brains because in another episode he went back in time and had sex with his Grandma (nasty in the pasty). You just don’t have reoccuring themes in the Simpsons.

But my distaste for AD is well documented. My strong distaste for anything Jason Bateman is not documented at all, though. I really can’t stand Jason Bateman.

by withclubsauce on Apr 30, 2008 8:52 PM PDT up reply actions
Yeah
I have. It’s not that I think it suffers from poor writing. The show had a fairly strong writing team. My problem with the show comes from a very queer sense of the relationship it seemed to take toward the audience that I always got. In short, I didn’t think the show respected its audience a lot of the time. And that made me very uneasy watching it.

Not for the AD thing, because diff’rent strokes. But Jason Bateman is NOT TO BE DISDAINED.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
He just rubs me the wrong way is all
And that’s not even counting that one time I met him and he actually rubbed me the wrong way. I like being rubbed up and down, and he kept using circular patterns. It’s not that hard, Bateman!

Question for the writers here
Before you write a “puff piece”, do your editors send in a “puffer” to help get you ready?
