Grant appreciation day
I was visiting the Dodger's SB Nation Gameday chat this morning and found the Dodger fans over there talking about the number of our posts (230 or so at the time) compared to theirs at the beginning of the game (15 or so, I didn't count so this is a very rough estimate). Once response to this comparison was:
It tends to happen when they have the best writer on SBN writing for them. Shame he has that massive character flaw.
I do believe that the massive character flaw is being a fan of the Giants, which most people on this site can probably forgive him for. Before last year started I was searching for a good Giants' blog and settled for The Splash! for about two weeks before searching again and found McCovey Chronicles.
Thanks for helping us all get through the current Giants' downturn Grant, you do a great job and it's not just recognized by us here at the Chronicles.
This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. If the author uses filler to achieve the minimum word requirement, a moderator may edit the FanPost for his or her own amusement.

I thought we recognized him pretty good
when we bought him that fatty ass gift card.
But hey there can never be too many thanks - thanks Grant for being the only good thing about this organization. Except maybe Cain and Lincecum. And the garlic fries. Ok and Jon Miller. Anyway you know what I'm saying.
2002? I'm over it. But I'll never be over Rich Aurilia.

If it wasn't for Grant's gift with words I wouldn't be blogging here. He did coin my username, after all.
Seriously though. Prior to me coming over here, I thought all sports blogging was a bunch of myopic jerkoff males with their heads so far up their asses they can't see how awful their opinions really are. Little did I know we can have fart jokes, genitalia jokes, puns, music posts, recipe swaps, oh and that baseball stuff too.
Grant, you rule.

They're made from dildough
I have a dough hook attachement for my superbadass sweet daddy standing mixer and have been tempted to try making breads and that at home. I wonder if I could do pretzels. Honey mustard soft pretzels sound yummy right now.

Sorry for stealing your annual event and moving it up six months. I just thought it was neat that Grant got some recognition over on a Dodgers' thread of all places.

That's true, I guess we need to put this in perspective and say that it was a DODGER fan complimenting him, how good can his judgment be for other things?

Grant is awesome every damn day. He's up there with Jon Miller and Dave Fleming when it comes to my enjoyment of Giants baseball.
His posts are an outstanding complement to the more straight-forward coverage we get from the beat writers.

Grant is like?
I mean, I like Grant and think he's funny and a good writer, but I don't know if he is the universal concept of liking things.
That's some pretty high praise.

I was at Safeway last night, and saw Mr and Mrs Magowan in the produce area, she was squeezing cucumbers with a faraway look on her face, and Pete said, "Sabean told me he got an offer to swap Grant for a player to be named later, he wants to kick the tires on it, what do you think?" and Mrs Mac said, "and ruin what little pleasure I get from your stupid team?", and I sure agree with her. Grant's a keeper.

Sensual vs. Sensuous
[in the supermarket vegetable section]
Eric 'Otter' Stratton: Mine's bigger.
Marion Wormer: [looks questioningly at him]
Eric 'Otter' Stratton: My cucumber. It's bigger.
Eric 'Otter' Stratton: I think vegetables can be very sensuous, don't you?
Marion Wormer: No, vegetables are sensual. People are sensuous.
Eric 'Otter' Stratton: Right. Sensual. That's what I meant. My name's Eric Stratton. People call me Otter.
Marion Wormer: My name's Marion. People call me Mrs. Wormer.
Eric 'Otter' Stratton: Oh, we have a Dean Wormer at Faber.
Marion Wormer: How interesting. I have a husband named Dean Wormer at Faber. Still want to show me your cucumber?

Grant > Not Grant
I'll leave the long (read: Intelligent) posts for guys like HTS and E, but I just want to say that last year Grant turned what would have been a terrible season into the best time I've ever had following the Giants. That Dodgers fan is spot on - Grant is why we get 1,500 comments on gameday threads while the most recent Fanpost at True Blue LA is 16 days old (the one before it is this).
You deserve to be struck out, when your first name's a verb.

Oh yeah
I'm supposed to follow up a joke like this by making a "but seriously" kind of comment, aren't I?
Seriously, though, Grant's as good or better at writing what he writes as I hope to be at writing what I write by the time I'm 30, and I should define that as being "in the top tier." To think he can barely even read, too. It boggles the mind.

This is the longest I've ever stuck with a message board type place
And while much of that is testiment to the wonderfully wacky Giants fans and their penis jokes who frequent this site, I know that if it weren't for Grant there never would have been such a gathering of irreverent (I almost typed irrelevant) malcontents. And, of course, their penis jokes.
His wit and insight attracted us all here in the first place. So. Yeah. That's my appreciation.

"That one character flaw" ???
First, let's be clear. The 'one character flaw' they're referring to is Grant's penchant for peeing in jars of baby food, resealing them, and donating them to poor hospitals. Read something other than the Springfield Shopper sometime. Besides, being a Giants fan isn't so much a character flaw as it is a character defect.
Nevertheless, huge thanks to Grant for this site and his work. I was out of the country from the 20th to the 31st, but picked up a bacterial something the last day I was away, so I have been violently sick all this week and with the help of mega-antibiotics, am no longer a brochure for plague death. (And my birthday was Wednesday, so: Worst. Ever.) Anyway, the point is that reading Grant's stuff this week has been the rare bright spot for me this week, as has been some of the stuff I have been able to read from others on here.
Thank you all.
Kitspool should still keep up the annual party.
And, really, if we care about Grant, we could all start doing the peeing in baby food thing so as to minimize the chances of his getting caught.

I would agree to this but I use Gerber's strained squash to make soups and other recipes that call for mashed squash. Peeing in my soup by proxy is low.

No, Silly!
You're supposed to pee in the baby food and then donate it to a hospital. See, that's how it becomes a character flaw. Knowingly eating ones own pee will, in time, be seen as an environmentalist virtue.
