Probably going to be a wet one tonight...

I'm guessing there'll be an hour, two hour rain delay. Hopefully we can get in 4-5 innings of baseball and then let timmy off the hook for coming back out.

Am I the only one who thought that Loney's slide was dirty yesterday and deserving of a 96mph heater aimed at his ass??

Randy Messenger: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"

by rxmeister on Apr 2, 2008 6:49 PM PDT reply actions

Most runners slide over the bag with their feet whereas Loney seemed to slide sideways over the bag which is not the accepted way

by wilriv21 on Apr 2, 2008 6:51 PM PDT up reply actions

I thought he intentionally kicked his legs out from under him. Of course it's only Ray Durham and we'd rather have Velez playing anyway, but I wouldn't mind seeing Loney prone in the batter's box tonight.

Randy Messenger: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!!"

by rxmeister on Apr 2, 2008 6:56 PM PDT up reply actions

I dunno...

It's not like he spiked him and he is supposed to be breaking up the double play, and if Durham is on the bag, he's fair game.

Also, I can't really complain at the moment if Velez is starting instead of Durham.

Don't you it's gonna be all right. But not right now.

Might not be a bad idea.

Get a reliever in there, let him warm up and pitch for 3 innings, probably all the game will go before rain and then put the starter in to try and finish it.

The Basil Fawlty Moderating Strategy:
"We could run a nice blog here if we didn't have all these members getting in the way."

But in the 4th inning when he comes in to "relieve" for 6 innings then it's just like a start.

I think they were worried that Tim would pitch fewer innings than they wanted and then be subject to a long rain delay. When they had him relieve, that was just what they wound up getting -- but he handled it OK.

I still don't really understand why they have relievers pitching

I've seen rain delays before but usually the starter still starts. This game started on time. Can someone explain this to me?

by JonnyDomestik on Apr 2, 2008 7:21 PM PDT reply actions

Well what would you rather have...

Lincecum pitch for 2 innings and then the game rained out, unavailable to pitch tomorrow then? Or Valdez pitch for 2 innings, Lincecum comes in after the rain delay or have the ability for Lincecum to come back in after the rain delay? It does make sense. And you don't want Timmy to pitch 2 innings and then get warmed back up after 1.5-2 hours.

The Basil Fawlty Moderating Strategy:
"We could run a nice blog here if we didn't have all these members getting in the way."

by WalrusMan on Apr 2, 2008 7:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Okay

So it's an expected rain delay that they're hedging it against. I didn't catch that on the mlb.tv feed. I thought it just stopped raining or something. Got it. Thanks.

by JonnyDomestik on Apr 2, 2008 7:25 PM PDT up reply actions

No.

Pretty good rain cell off to the west in the ocean. It'll probably be there in an inning or two.

If

If Tim had pitched only two innings, I would have brought him back either Saturday or Sunday, which would have put him either right before (preferably) or right after Zito.

by sharksrog on Apr 3, 2008 12:24 AM PDT up reply actions

This way, if there's a rain delay (which I assume they're expecting soon) you don't waste you're starters if it's a long delay.

I really don't understand it. If you're going to use him, why not let him start instead of doing something weird like brining him in the 4th inning?

How's the actual game going?

Miller is hammering on the Giants' hitters tonight. He called out Rowand and Velez for swinging at first pitches in RBI situations in the 1st and 2nd innings, and he called Durham's approach into question last inning.

No sugarcoating on the radio.

well obviously there's enough good info that this game isn't gonna get stopped, and we can't expect to get nine innings out of the pen and be effective this weekend.

Both teams didn't want to start their pitchers because it might rain but then they bring them in as relievers as it begins to lightly rain?

Well I for one think this is a great move...

bringing in Lincecum to relieve.

1 - With the rain it's essentially 1 or two inning game.

2 - Can anyone think of another way getting our starting pitchers a chance at a W?

Loaiza on the mound for LA. Timmah warming up for SF.

Kruk is saying that's probably OK for Lincecum, because he never ices his arm and barely warms up sometimes anyway. In any event, Timmah has convinced the coaches he's good to go.
