Open Gameday Thread, 4/29: The Return
The balk call was the worst call I've ever seen. The Giants have speed 'n' gamered their way out of a bunch of runs, so it might not be the difference in the game. But, really, an umpire just called a balk because a pitcher stopped his motion on a timeout the umpire granted. Unbelievable.

The last completely unbelievable BS call against the Giants (that I recall, at least) was also while Lincecum was pitching, when Shane “Ass Hat” Victorino charged Omar.

Let's call him NayRay. This one can also be laid on the other second baseman
Cocky Velez wandered too far and was major leagued at first base, destroying the rally that could have gotten LInce off the hook, maybe even won it for him.
Lotsa blame to go around. Randy Winn was toadlike tonight, as well. And John Bow-Out looks about ready to be a union painter.
omg....why the hell didn't we pinch run for castillo
Burriss could have stolen third, sac fly, tie game. Terrible game management

I’d really love to hear what his explanation was for calling the balk and sticking to it. Replays clearly showed that he called time. Of course, he’ll probably come up with a lame excuse.
I know!
He raised both of his arms and he audibly yelled the word “time!”

Thoughts from the Yard
1. Lincecum looked mortal tonight, until the Darling call.
2. Why did Bochy take so long to get thrown out? Just call the guy the c-word and get it over with.
3. Molina kept jawing at the umpire for the rest of the inning; even Darling must have realized his stupidity because I think umps normally wouldn’t keep listening.
4. I was proud to be a Giants fan, because the whole yard kept booing every time a Rockies pitcher stepped off the rubber, threw to first, etc. wanting a balk call. Excellent!
5. Chris Ianetta? Come on.
6. The Rockies played a catcher at 3B all game and no Giant bunted to him. I remember Velez screwing one up, but that was it. Billy Martin would have had the next batter bunting the instant Tulowitzki left, and would have kept it up all game.
7. Bocock needs to learn to bunt.
8. Everyone else needs to learn to bunt (I know, sabermetrics blah blah blah, but everyone needs to know HOW, and they don’t seem to).
9. When the pitcher has a better batting average than the 6, 7, and 8 hitters in a lineup, and the pitcher isn’t named Babe Ruth or Brooks Kieschnick or Catfish Hunter, there’s a problem.
10. I really like Fred Lewis and enjoy watching him play, but he’s really raw, moreso than some of the AA/A promoted guys. I hope he picks up some of these things this year, and doesn’t just get frustrated. That SillyBall double steal was.. not good, but he did steal second nicely which was good to see. Would have been nicer had “veteran savvy” Winn not run into an out at 3B.
11. Bowker needs to take some pitches.
12. Ianetta? Really?
13. For crap’s sake, when there’s a 200 pound catcher on second, and you catch a short pop-up, the guy’s not going to third. STOP THROWING (and overthrowing) TO THIRD EVERY TIME THEY DEKE YOU!
14. The balk call was crrrrrrap, but the Ginats squandered several opportunities. Maybe if the balk makes a tie game or leaves the Rockies down a run it doesn’t seem so horrible.
Frustrating as he!!, but I’d still much, much prefer to watch this team than last years’.
