Matt Morris: Released

Matt Morris Released By Pirates

Wow, it must really suck to be too bad even for the Pirates. And somehow, Morris was. I guess the trade doesn't look as great as it did last year when we had Rajai and he was playing pretty well, but it sure looks really bad for Pittsburgh now to have acquired him, agreed to pay all of his contract and then to have him blow up like this.

FWIW: 22.3 IP, 44 H, 24 ER, 7 BB, 9 K, 9.67 ERA, 42 ERA+, 2.14 WHIP

All Matt Morris-related schadenfreude is welcome. How about that Pirates defense, eh Matty?

Is it mean to laugh?

Does anyone else have this sick feeling that Correia will be out for a long time, and Sabean will be tempted to give Morris another try?

No, really, I have updated my blog this year: http://skaldheim.livejournal.com/tag/baseball

STOP THAT NOW

Dude that’s not funny or possible.

My thoughts exactly. Quick Sabes…sign him up and make him our ace! God knows the one we’ve got now deserves a trip to the glue factory.

My bad…”ace” should of been inside some funky air quotes like this…”ace”!

...I would have actually been worried about this. But so far this year, the Giants have actually been practicing what they preached about getting younger (Yabu aside). I’m ready to give the benefit of the doubt.

2008: My previous assessment may have been overly optimistic.

Sabean sure knows how to pick 'em

Only 948 games until the end of Zito's contract

by thehavenot on Apr 27, 2008 9:59 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

The only thing worse...

Would be having Brian Sabean fired and replaced by Dave Littlefield.

LOL K/9 of 3.63. That’s even worse than almost as bad as Zito.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Good

He was a dick when he left and his parting shots were ridiculous.

My favorite was how he was looking forward to playing in front of “Pittsburgh’s young defense” which was one of the worst in the game last year and one of the worst this year.

I just can’t get over his defense remark, especially considering the Giants D wasn’t too bad last year.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Yeah

It was actually pretty above average.

Morris doesn't mind anyway

He’s happy to be off that team, as it became clear to him that none of the players except him actually wanted to win. This became clear to him when they kept losing.

The fact that he kept losing in no way complicated this issue in his mind.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

I’d like to point out that it was a bad trade for Pittsburgh last year. But they have a new GM, and good for him to have the cajones to get rid of Morris. It’s definitely going to be interesting to see how well their new GM handles that team, one of the absolute worst-run teams in baseball for so many years.

Yes, why can’t we have a Neal Huntington of our own?

I dunno, he has Chris Gomez and Luis Rivas on their roster this year.

Seems akin to cleaning up the mess Terry Donahue left the 49ers in. You often have to clean up before you can resurrect a franchise. Don’t judge the guy based on half a year.

That’s probably supposed to be ERA. No one is that bad.

Hold your breath

Correia out?

Lowry out for extended period?

Ginats need starter. Quick, to the Suckmobile! We must get to him before Texas signs him.

I’ve missed a few of the minor lines posts, so does anyone know if Misch is starting or relieving, and how is he doing?

Less arm, more talk. Raisingcain is a GAMER.

Patrick Misch

Misch is a starting pitcher for Fresno and seems to be doing fine. Hope SF promotes him as a LHP for the bullpen and places Merkin Valdez in the rotation.

From the Yahoo! article

After Morris’ poor start Saturday night, Russell said it was too early to decide what the team should do with Morris. The Pirates subsequently determined they couldn’t keep using a pitcher who hasn’t lasted longer than 4 2-3 innings in his last three starts.

Wow, you’d say to yourself (in a tone gooey with sarcasm): that’s a brilliant assessment! And then you’d realize: and it’s one that Giants management would never make. Of course, if you’re eating over 10x the salary to arrive at a common-sense decision, then self-delusion is the only option.

I ♥ Eugenifred Bowkmeier.

I’d be cool with a Minor League contract, but the odds of him wanting to do that are most likely slim to none.

You’d be cool with a minor league contract?!? By god, what the hell is wrong with you? While you’re at it, why don’t you offer one to Alex Sanchez, Sidney Ponson, and Edgardo Alfonso as well!

Christ! Talk about trying to polish a turd.

I don’t see any problem with it.

It’s not like he’d be blocking anyone or taking innings away from a guy that’s going to have a shot in the Majors as it is.

Big Deal

Morris said some things that nobody wanted to hear…Bengie said the same things….

by slojoe on Apr 27, 2008 2:29 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Don't worry

he’ll be a Cardinal after he clears waivers. They’ll pick him up, Dave Duncan will do his wierd goat sacrifice to make old broken pitchers good, and then he’ll pitch well for the rest of the year, and talk about how he never should’ve left in the first place.

by tyrannoman on Apr 27, 2008 3:39 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Spot on

I predict this.

Still watching out for Notgardo in Fresno. Hope you make it back up soon. We miss you 'round The City way. How come you never call?

At what point...

Do we all talk about how Sabean should have picked him back up and we missed a golden opportunity?

My hope is after Satan turns on the A/C…

Matt Morris Poor Mans Barry Zito

Did Zito accepted $126 million to lose every game he starts for the Giants? In addition to the 0-6 record, Zito has a 7.53 ERA and 11/15 K/BB ratio.

When will Sabean learn? Can Sabean be released

by BalcoBomber on Apr 27, 2008 10:02 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Can Sabean be released

Nope….he only gets multi-year contract extensions when the team is in last place.
