That was fun...

Kruk says “here’s a guy who can do it.” Papa says something like “what, a splash hit?” kind of unbelievingly, and Kruk says, “yeah, he definitely has the power to do it,” about 2 seconds before Freddie deposited the first pitch in the water.

Fred Lewis – Barry Bonds circa 1991????

by fwoty oz on Apr 26, 2008 7:58 PM PDT reply actions

In 1991, Bonds had, what, 4-5 years experience in the majors?

by jcb9 on Apr 26, 2008 8:06 PM PDT up reply actions

I kinda just pulled a random year out of my ass…

Lewis’ 08 (so far) matches up pretty nicely with ‘88 Bonds, though I doubt Lewis is going to hit 25 home runs any time soon.

Unrelated note – jesus, Bonds broke .450 OBP as early as ‘92. That’s nuts.

Especially since he was essentially a leadoff man in a one-run game there (ignoring Velez on 3rd, as he should), and the first pitch was a ball. He needed to take a strike there, or at least hit the ball hard if he didn’t.

Well, I was there tonight. Lots of good things: Velez is out of his slump, Fred Lewis is still hitting the hell out of the ball, Manny Burriss started (squee). Scoring. Runs. Youth. All good. Lots of bad: Correia’s injury, the bullpen was lousy (except for Merkin and Chulk, and even Merkin had me going oh Christ there for a bit), Winn and Rowand looking like they’re not seeing the ball well at all lately. The double switches. What the hell was that all about? Bochy managed to use every position player except for Bengie in the game. I just…what? And frickin’ letting Ray Durham bat when you absolutely positively needed an impact player to bat in that spot. You let Ray hit while Bengie languishes on deck. WTF is that? As the father of the illustrious TK told me tonight, Bruce Bochy is an idiot. He even told me to “go on the blog and tell them” that Bochy is an idiot. Hey, I gotta do what dad says.

Somewhere between Wickenburg and Wickieup , AZ...

...on the sinuous Hwy 93…a ‘99 Escort (ZX2!) buzzed along.

The driver , barefoot (as was his wont) listened to the scratchy , intermittent sounds of a distant baseball game.

He cackled when one of the announcers said "The Giants don't want anyone to know that they beat the fans who interfere with play on the field."
He shouted gleefully when the home team staged a ninth inning comeback.

He roared with rage when the rally was killed by gritless lethargy at the plate.

C’mon , admit it…you all knew Ray would do that…I felt it as surely as the steering wheel in my hands.

Ill say this though I respect Bochy for letting Zito get shelled like this because he deserves to. I thought it was funny at first that Zito sucked so bad for the Giants.
