OT: NFL Draft
Lest we forget, the Giants aren't the only team around these parts with a clueless owner, incompetent front office, ridiculous contracts given to substandard players and generally speaking a tough road to hoe.
To prove I know nothing about the draft, I was really excited when the Giants picked Rashaun Woods. He's now bouncing around the CFL (Go Hamilton Tiger Cats!). So I will rely on others to tell me whether they made a huge blunder or only a medium-sized folly.
The Niners are picking 29th, so I just hold my breath.

In the film room, we've noticed
when he scrunches down too much, the passes sail over his head

its pissing me off that I just wanna see the niners pick
and I’ve been watching for almost 3 hours.
And that is why...
Any draft, football, baseball, basketball, is stupid. It was interesting to see the baseball draft this year, but they only started to over do it. The football draft is…overdone.

Can't believe
No WRs taken in top 20. And possibly 25 depending on Seattle here.
That’s insane.
My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.
By which I mean
It’s actually the smart bet NOT to take a WR in the first round, and these teams are playing that bet! It’s insane that I’ve never seen this happen.

it's kinda surprising
but none of the receivers jump out all that much.
on a side note, i love steve young, but he is absolute shit as a commentator.

Interesting
I’m not much of a football fan, but I watched some of the draft on ESPN, and thought Steve Young was surprisingly intelligent with his observations.
Your 2011 SF Giants: the 2008 Augusta Greenjackets!
Plus Ultra
Steve, 13 years after the SuperBowl, is still a leader, still shares the limelight with his cohosts, and is still great.
If he can turn into a real NT, it’s a fantastic pick. The NT is the centerpiece of the 3-4, and it’ll bolster the already strong run defense and open up the pass rush for our already talented Linebackers. What our 3-4 defense was truly missing was a real nosetackle, and that’s one of the big reasons it seemed so bad in so many areas last season: it didn’t have the centerpiece.

i thought
balmer was going to be used as a 5-technique 3-4 end?
but otherwise i agree, that’d be sweet .

Yeah
I don’t know too much about the guy or how we’re going to use him. I just heard DT + room to gain weight + was supposed to be drafted higher and decided it was probably a decent pick.

I feel good about it
So long as he plays NT.

I don’t think any of the WR in this draft are very good, tbh.
Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.
Agreed
This wasn’t the year to take a first day WR.
Hawkins will still be on the board tomorrow. Give it a day.

Ah
I was assuming Jackson comes off the board this round. I guess on second thought that’s not a particularly safe assumption.
But yeah, Jackson was probably the 5th best WR in this draft if you’re optimistic. For all his freakish natural skill, he has some serious question marks, and not all of them are because of his size.

Any Cal fan can tell you
Jackson disappeared at times when he wasn’t playing on ABC and Lavell Hawkins was definitely the best Cal receiver. I was shocked to see that Jackson had declared for the draft after such a down year.
my cousin and i got noah lowry's autograph after he came out of a porta-potty. he was nice about it.
Niners take Chilo Rachal, OG USC #39
Apparently can play RT, too, but I can’t really say if that’s true.

let's hope
he can replace larry allen. said to be a similar type mauler. not much of a pass blocker though.
