I didn't like Fred dying.

And what they replaced the character with was kind of dumb.

Of course, I really didn’t like much of the fifth season. Or the seventh season of Buffy for that matter.

I didn't think it was bad that she died

I thought it was bad that it only took half an episode. Totally ungratifying.

by howtheyscored on Apr 24, 2008 8:35 PM PDT up reply actions

What I did like, however

Was the resolution of the Conner story arc. Well, I mean Angel’s sacrifice. He made what was the most difficult choice a father could make.

That was amazing

And completely out of left field. Possibly the most gratifying episode of the whole series.

I liked seventh season of Buffy A LOT more than sixth season of Buffy.

I thought Angel’s fifth season was it;s best in a lot of ways. And WAY better than season 4. Angel season 4 = teh suck. Angel season 4 season finale = AWESOME.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on Apr 24, 2008 8:36 PM PDT up reply actions

Really

I can’t talk to you any more.

So what I will do is talk to nobody in particular. And then just happen to say something else to no one in particular that just happens to answer anything you said.

So, to nobody in particular, I hated Buffy season seven. I mean, I really hated it. I hated the First. I hated the First’s sidekick, Captain Reynolds (or whoever he was). I hated the “uber” vampires (especially when during the series finale these things that were kicking Buffy’s butt are suddenly being fought by Giles and freakin’ Anya. There’s a lot more to hate but I am going back to paying attention to the Giants now.

by thehavenot on Apr 24, 2008 8:43 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh

I don’t disagree about anything you’ve mentioned. Buffy season 7 had some serious problems, a bunch of which have to do with recurring Whedon gripes that I have. It was just WAY better than season 6. It was funny again. I loved seeing the Mayor. D. B. Woodside’s character was really good. The Jonathan arc had a satisfying ending. Spike had a good storyline. It had a lot going for it and a lot going against it.

Season 6 was just so hard to watch.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on Apr 24, 2008 8:47 PM PDT up reply actions

Eh

I liked the evil trio. I’m more indifferent about season 6 than anything else. It was kind of hard to follow season five. I mean, where do you go after you had your character defeat a god?

Only 950 games until the end of Zito's contract

by thehavenot on Apr 24, 2008 8:50 PM PDT up reply actions

Season 6 for me

It was emotionally abrasive at every opportunity and visually abrasive to boot (weird ass CONSTANT red filter). It wasn’t as funny. Xander was fat. It had some of the worst written AND directed episodes of the series. Dawn went from regular annoying to kill me annoying…

I could go on…

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

by howtheyscored on Apr 24, 2008 8:53 PM PDT up reply actions

Glory and Dawn

were absolutely fucking unwatchable.

Dawn had the most annoying scream/squeal, and was the only teenager on that to act like one (except maybe Cordelia, but she was entertaining at times).

by kaliber on Apr 24, 2008 8:51 PM PDT up reply actions

I HATED season 5 when it was airing, but I like it a lot more in subsequent viewings. I was surprised how much Glory grew on me, even. Dawn was always an awful addition. Michelle Trachtenberg is one of the top 5 annoying people in the world.

OH NO!

Lincecum is “exposed” to the loss!

Bonds stands alone.

Don’t, you know, protect the best young arm in baseball or anything. No, two batters in the eighth inning of a game when we aren’t going to contend and when we actually have a reliable bullpen, that’s much more important.

I was fine with the sixth inning – 108 pitches isn’t 120 and he hadn’t been overtaxed his last time out. 120 pitches however, is 120 pitches but like the rest of this team’s management at every level (and a fair portion of the actual roster) we seem to be stuck fifty years out of date.

It’s ridiculous and wasteful.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

by jponry on Apr 24, 2008 9:16 PM PDT up reply actions

Way foolish. First they were overprotecting him last year/this spring. Now they have him start after rain delays, and throw 120 pitches in a meaningless April game. How about some middle ground?

Keiichi Yabu: Best 39-year old Japanese pitcher on the Giants. Just keep him away from the exercise bands.

by BaysideBaller on Apr 24, 2008 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions

I don’t even think they were overprotecting him – he averaged a hair under 100 pitches a game in his first full season. If anything that would tend towards the opposite.

As I understand the empirical work, the danger is going to be in his next start.

Uhhhh

I just went out to walk my dog. When I left, Lincecum had thrown like 95 pitches. I was gone for about half an hour. And they’re just now taking him out!? The hell?

by jcb9 on Apr 24, 2008 9:17 PM PDT reply actions

I know. I’m baffled as to how that happened. Then I remembered that the team is run by people with as much baseball knowledge as your basic average Borneo aboriginal.

by jcb9 on Apr 24, 2008 9:19 PM PDT up reply actions

that's disrespectful

to Borneoan aboriginals. WIth a modicum of common sense, anyof them could outmanage Bochy.
