I think I love Merkin Valdez now after these stories.

Kruk was telling a story about when the Giants were in LA and they asked Merkin to get them to hold up the team bus. So Merkin starts running to the bus waving his arms in the air and his pants fall down.

Kruk and Kuip are talking about what a character he is. Doesn’t wear a jacket no matter how cold it is…was running to catch a team bus and his baggy pants fell down

hmm .. okay. I thought it was the second out. Still, it took a perfect play and a bad call, so it wasn’t that bad a risk.
why take it though? Eugenio can score from second just as easily as third.
you can't block the Bocock
with nobody out, the odds of him scoring by innings end are still pretty good.
you can't block the Bocock
i think he thought for sure the ball was gonna get by young but it was a great barehanded grab and that’s what made eugenio hesitate rounding second, but by that time he was running too fast to stop. he still made it safe though. it wasn’t a horrible misjudgment IMHO, just one of those things.
Uribe to Thompson to Clark: Don't tinker ever with chance
with no outs, a double = .62 of a run
with no outs, a triple = .93 of a run
Difference is probably greater given this awful offense.
Right. Risk: -.88. Reward: .31. So he needs to make it three times out of four for it to be a good gamble.
I know he didn’t think of it in that way, but I would definitely have given four to one odds that he would make it.
Baserunners must never, ever, EVER
Make the first or third out at third base. It’s a rule. And a good one. Velez shouldn’t have tried for third in that situation. It’s a bad baserunning play. Not worth the risk.
That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!
See above for the math. It looks bad when you fail, but if you never get thrown out, you’re not taking enough chances.
There's no point in taking a chance in that situation.
It’s just bad baseball.
That's all I can stands, I can't stands no more!

mr. molasses
In two recent games, Benjie has failed to score from first on doubles with two outs. He is the our best clutch hitter with two strikes, but here’s an idea. If he gets on base in close games from the 6th inning on, Bochy should use Alfonso as a pinch runner.
Eliezer is not as good defensively in the crucial late innings, but he can hit, and he would get more playing time.
oops
I checked the roster, Steve Holm is the backup. Well, I’d still rather see him or another pinch runner.
I see your point. There was the game Alfonso came in for Benjie, got banged up and Feliz had to catch the ninth.
