Just as an explanation

This is a measure of defensive efficiency by Baseball Prospectus, which is the rate at which balls put into play are converted into outs by a team’s defense.

The Giants are in last.

The end.

It should be noted though

That some of this might be driven by a flukily high BABIP against Giants pitchers.

It makes more sense that

The BABIP against Giants pitchers is flukily high because The Giants are the worst team in the league in converting outs.

..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

Arizona’s defense doesn’t seem like it’s all that good though. Maybe their pitching is not as good as it looks?

Arizona’s outfield defense seems terrific to me. Burns, Young, and Upton can all go gettem pretty well.

Where does the N in SFN come from? Did they just grab a random letter from “Francisco” to get the third letter?

Kind of a guess

I think it means “National.” If you look at San Diego, they have the same thing.

Some how this only mildly surprises me.

We have a third baseman that was waiver bait and had all of 55 games( 21 this year) there . A second base man who was passable at best and now is something else. His relief is a guy without a defensive home. And we are seeing a lot of Lewis time. Though in the Lewis’s case his defense ( from what little I’ve seen) does not seem a little less shoddy recently. Still that’s 38% of the fielders on the diamond. Imagine once Molina get good and tired in a bout a month and a half.

I am a Giants fan. Thus I enjoy my pain. Currently enjoying it more then usual.
