Open Gameday Thread, 4/20

San Francisco Giants at St. Louis Cardinals, Apr 20, 2008 11:15 AM PDT

Mixed emotions: I actually have Manny Burriss in a keeper fantasy league. Now I can start him...or something. At least, I would have been able to if the league didn't dissolve after Peavygate.

This brings up a poll, so make sure to vote even if you show up after the game is over.

Hello all

Go J. Sanchez today, what a beautiful day in San Francisco.

Go Sanchez!

I hope he pulls off a stunning victory! We need this kid to shine for us today. With a win we could pass the Dodgers in the standings. HA HA!

Definitely Fantasy League.

I dunno. Just never could get into that.

Listening to someone talk about the players on their fantasy team is like listening to an old lady talk about her cats.

Ughh

Durham and Aurilia starting again.

You know you have a good lineup when your #3 hitter is batting .190

sigh.

Bochy, if you insist on starting Durham, can you at least bat him 6th?

I had a dream recently where I was Dana Scully. I was taking a vacation in this nice area, and the local hospital had a question about this autopsy they were doing. So I went over there, and suddenly this nice vacation spot was The Arctic, and this local hospital was just a shack that this one scientist used, and it was this one scientist (who had an assistant who was also a maid) who had a question about this autopsy.

Anyway, approaching the shack I had this feeling that I’d done this before, and that everything was going to go to shit. In fact, I knew what was going to happen for everything to go to shit. I was going to meet the assistant to go in the shack and look at the body, but the body wouldn’t be there. So we’d look for it. I would look outside, and she would look inside. There would be a scream, I’d rush inside, and she’d have her throat slit, dying. Then I’d run the hell away.

I knew this was going to happen, but I walked up there anyway, greeted the assistant/maid, and she took me over to the shack. I knew what was going to happen, so I was all ready to say “Where’s the body?” But when I looked around I saw the body. Except it was the scientist’s body. And it was missing a head. Desperate to make what was really going on match up with what I knew was supposed to happen, I said wildly “WHERE IS THE HEAD? THE HEAD IS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE! WE hAVE TO LOOK FOR IT I’LL LOOK OUTSIDE YOU LOOK IN HERE!!!”

So I went outside and pretended to look. Really, I was just waiting to hear a scream. And then there was the scream, and I ran to look and her throat was slit. I probably could have saved her, what with my medical experience and the cut not being too bad, but if I didn’t play this enough like my premonition I knew I was going to DIE. So I ran.

I ran and I grabbed my phone and I called my boyfriend (Scully’s boyfriend… remember, in this dream I am her). I yelled into it things like “You have to get down here and get me out. You’ve got to help me! There’s all this shit going on!”

And he talked back into the phone, going “Wait a second… are yo uout there Fucking Around with Mulder??? I thought we decided you were done with that?!”

And I tried to explain that I didn’t mean to, and Mulder wasn’t even there, and I was just on vacation and it was supposed to be routine autopsy totally not in the Arctic.

But he seemed mad that I was involved in an X-file. And I wasn’t sure if he was going to bother saving me.

And then I woke up.

My Dave Righetti is better than your Dave Righetti.

so, ideally if ray and richie can collide in a shallow pop up (infield fly rule, so we don’t lose the out), we might see the light at the end of the tunnel just yet!

MLB.TV Stupidity

Every time, in the last 3 days, when I go on the MLB.TV website and click the link for 400K the stupid site takes me to an upgrade for 800K. And when I click upgrade and fill in all the information, it says an error has occurred. That’s when they allow me to click the 400K link. Does anyone else have this problem?

Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, Praise for the morning
Praise for them springing fresh from the word

Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dew fall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness, where his feet pass

Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day.

I would guess one of these two.

Matt Cain: He'll save children, but not the Dodger children.

Yea..

I think it can’t be someone new. They came into the league earlier in the old days so they could get it younger. Least amount of games maybe a newer player.

Yeah. It doesn’t work all the time, but sometimes just take the risk, especially when the pitches are piling up.

Strikeouts are better, but when you’re throwing 104 pitches through 4 2/3 in order to walk 5 and K 7, you need to introduce some economy into the operation.

The important thing is really to avoid walks…

This game is a good example of why I hate the idea of a six-man rotation. We’ve got an eight-run lead, Sanchez is tiring, there’s no reason for him to still be in the game. But with the six-man, Bochy will feel pressure to get innings out of him, both because he needs work and because the bullpen will be thinner.

What might be needed later in summer is some spot starts from a pitcher not in the rotation to spell some of the arms

by wilriv21 on Apr 20, 2008 1:15 PM PDT up reply actions

this is a good point. But at the same time, the question of who to bump when Lowry comes back is such a tough one.

continued presence of barry zito >:(

You see, I’d go the other way. Sanchez has been inconsistent, but he’s shown enough to stay in the rotation, I think. I’d move Correia to the bullpen – he’s got years of experience there, and our pen could really use the help.

by jcb9 on Apr 20, 2008 1:17 PM PDT up reply actions

create phantom injury for Zito

by jponry on Apr 20, 2008 1:18 PM PDT up reply actions

The only thing I like about the 6-man rotation is that Correia and Sanchez can keep starting, while Lowry is showcased for a trade. His contract and proven-veteran-ness is such that he could actually bring back something decent in trade.

Of course, Lowry could be in and either Sanchez could go to AAA or Correia could go to the pen, and basically the same thing would be accomplished, assuming Correia could come back and get stretched out to starter stamina relatively quickly.
