The Beach Ball - Larry Bowa Conspiracy Theory
Watching that whole Larry Bowa losing his s#*t thing last night got me thinking. Last night while Matt Cain was on the mound, the game was stopped twice. Once because a beach ball had been thrown out onto the field and the second because Larry Bowa found it ridiculous that he had to stay within the coaches box down third base. Everytime this happens on a Giants telecast, Mike Krukow goes off on how the pitcher just hates when this happens because it breaks up their rythym. Up until last night, I have always attributed the beach ball phenomon to fair weathered Dodger fans being stupid with their beach balls, but now possibly see this as a variance of home field advantage.
With regards to the game last night, right after the Larry Bowa incident, NBC showed Matt Cain's reaction to the whole thing and he was pissed. Sure enough, right after play was resumed Cain walked James Loney and that was the end of his evening. I could help at this point to wonder what a convienent time for Larry Bowa to have a Larry Bowa moment. No score, two on and two out in the sixth inning. LumberJack Taschner did come in and strike out Matt Kemp, but still.
Which brings me back to the beach balls. I have never actually kept track of this but wonder if those beach balls seem to magically pop out onto the field when the opposing team is in the field. Are Dodger fans that clever? If so, well played Dodger fans, well played.

I hear Dodger fans faked the moon landing.

Oh c'mon...
...they can't even manage to make it to ballpark before the third inning...how could they possibly be organized enough for something like that?
Everyone knows it was Expos fans who faked the moon landing. Those photos of the desolate, lifeless landscape? Olympic Stadium during a home game.

The exact same thing crossed my mind during the argument. Even though he looked genuinely pissed, I can't help wondering at the timing. The cause Krukow guessed seems relatively minor, and Cain was done after the break.

Those kinds of theatrics in Game 2 of the season? Resulting in a three-game suspension for Bowa? Just to get a little edge? Really?

I just hope Mr. Bowa is okay,
he looked very angry, and may need professional help. L.A. is a terrible place to live.

All I know is
Ed Montague is a great guy. Not just for an ump, either, but a *real* great guy. The fact that he tossed Bowa last night practically made me swoon.

Actually
I think Cain would appreciate the game stopping. He needs as many breathers as he can get with the Giants failing to give him long innings on offense every other half inning.

The delay most likely killed his night. It couldn't possibly have been the pitch count.
No need to do a Dusty on Matt and Timmy right now. I'm cool with 114 pitches.

Call me crazy, but I think the notion is that had play not been interrupted, Cain might have maintained focus and gotten Loney out instead of walking him.

maybe, but Loney should have been his last batter in either case. I actually think that 114 in April is too much. When he went over 100 Kruk sounded an alarm.
Dusty Baker overused Mark Prior and Kerry Wood in 03, for a good team that had a legit shot at the Championship. Neither has been worth a damn since.
Fast forward to the 08 Giants. While I completely enjoy watching Cain work, I will applaud when he completes 6-7 innings and gives way to the bullpen, cause I want him around for years to come. Same goes for Timmy Tornado.
Bruce can abuse the rest of the staff all he wants. IMHO

I would prefer
Bruce go out to the parking lota, abuse Dodger fans, and go home after the 6th inning.

Totally agree with you
Absolutely agree, he probably shouldn't have pitched the sixth inning at all.
He shouldn't abuse Correia either, in my opinion. I want to see him do well too. The rest of them can suck it.

no question
the delay definitely messed with him. You have to figure that it takes all of your concentration at that point in an outing to make the right pitches, and get your team through six. Cain was bloody seething, and rightfully so. I don't put too much stake in the actual number of pitches (within reason, of course), but I actually think they should have pulled Cain right after the Bowa incident. That's right, with one strike on Loney.
To me, that's when a guy is going to hurt his arm - after he is all heated up in the moment, and then he has to resume after his rhythm is thrown off completely. I know that he would have been even angrier had that happened, and Bochy never would have done it anyway, but I cringed when he was left in after the delay.
As for Bowa (or Dodger fans) interrupting things deliberately, he is (and they are) really not that smart.

it was an inside job. Seriously, though, I like it. Sounds like a nice place for some research.

typical larry bowa
been pulling that bush league crap his entire coaching career. doesn't respect the game enough to let the players play.

To be fair, this notion of planting the coaches in their boxes, no matter what, is really dumb. They should be able to move around a bit for safety, depending on who's up.

On second thought
A beach ball came on the field tonight when the Giants were at bat.
So it turns out Dodger fans are simply morons.
In other news that didn't need to be proven: Ah, screw it.

And Bowa got suspended for 3 days, so I am thinking that's not part of his plan.
