Open Gameday Thread, 4/16
Arizona Diamondbacks @ San Francisco Giants
Yesterday, I heard someone mention today's game as a "match-up between two former Cy Young award winners." Hmm. That's technically correct, and it makes for a fun game. I'll play.
Martin Scorcese and Kevin Costner (former Best Director winners)
Mother Teresa and Henry Kissinger (former Nobel Peace Prize winners)
Barry Bonds and Zolio Versalles (former MVPs)
Wheeee! That is fun! Your turn! In the meantime, enjoy Barry Zito, the Zolio Versalles of Cy Young Award winners.

The cutback on The Simpsons by the CW. I need my Simpsons reruns, and not the recent crap either, give me the classic stuff. You know, seasons 3-10. Only ONE Simpsons a day? I’m dying here.

CW only plays 2006-07 reruns. Every two weeks its the same episode from those seasons. I can’t believe the bastards at CW are depriving us of the classics. It’s a travesty.

I used to think Raymond was funny
But then I realized it’s kind of a sexist show, by formula, and I had a hard time watching it after that. And Deborah Heaton s-u-x sucks. And Brad Garrett isn’t remotely funny.
Ultimately, only Peter Boyle made the show worth it at all.

It cracks me up...
...that MCC routinely has more comments on a GameDay thread before the game even starts than some other SBNation blogs get in an entire game. Not to call any out by name, of course.
Also, we’ve got more Bea Arthur jokes in a single day than they can manage in a year.

BAH!!!
Totally disagree. Mainly because if I’m in the car, I’m stuck listening to 45 minutes of commercial on KNBR in the one hour before game time! So before the game starts, I’m just getting pissed!
Five minute commercial break
“Hey everybody, it’s Kruk and Kuip! And today we’re going to talk about ballpark roofs! When we come back…”
Give minute commercial break
“Hi everybody. We’ll, here’s some boring crap that is an absolute waste of time for you during rush hour. And now that our five minutes are up, it’s back to commercial. That’s our show!”
Five minutes of commerical
“Jon Miller here with Bruce Bochy. Bruce, I notice you’re stubbornly sticking with your old guys in the lineup, despite the fact that none of them can hit the ball out of the infield. Can you tell me why?”
“Well, Jon… It’s because I don’t have a clue.”
“More with Bruce Bochy, right after this.”
Five minutes of comercial
“Jon Miller back here with Bruce Bochy. Bruce, do you think this team is overmatched?”
“Well Jon, we’re just going to sports cliche at a time.”
“That’s the Bruce Bochy show. Now stay tuned for commercials and the starting lineup.”
Five minutes of commercial
“Hi everyone, it’s Dave Flemming, with todays starting lineups… Right after this…”

Bringing his numbers up to:
.227 /.320 /.273
And while that is technically better than Aurillia, I wouldn’t call it “Out hitting” him, because that would imply actually hitting.
I’m sorry when your OPS is .593 and you are trying to crack the 1B job, that isn’t getting it done. Even if the current occupant happens to be OPSing .400.

Usually..
Jon Miller and Dave Flemming do switch off innngs, where they are the main announcer as opposed to Kruk and Kuip who just call the game as the color man/straight announcer most of the time. Miller and Fleming usually play the announcer, for radio that’s more important, and Miller throws in the color man spots also.

The outfit was so bad. So bad. Pink shirt, that stupid ugly knit cap…wtf? Other fashion atrocities at Fanfest were Erick Threets’ feminine looking shirt and Kevin Franden’s insistence upon wearing his shirts with the collars open showing lots of chest a la 1970s porn stars. Then there was Cain’s bright red striped polo shirt. Making lots of money entitles you to wearing bad clothes, I suppose.

So closer Brian Wilson wants the PA announcer to play some loud music when he enters for a save situation. Rise up!
Wilson’s selection, “Rise Up,” has the same hard edge, though it’s not instantly recognizable to most fans. That’s because it’s a song by the Christian Rock group Disciple. Wilson, a born-again Christian, was inspired by the lyrics and felt they fit the energy of a save situation:
“I will not sit silently as you mock and curse my God/Stand against Him, you will be brought down/Here I come/I’m ‘bout to rise up/With all of my people/We’re ‘bout to rise up.”

I’m totally on board with whatever Brian Wilson chooses to believe in or play as his entry music. It’s just weird to me that an Irish-American born in New England who wears tattoos and visited the Jameson and Guinness factories while backpacking through Ireland would be a born-again Christian. It’s more of a cognitive dissonance thing.

Many (if not most) don't find anything wrong with drinking in moderation
It’s just that most people who aren’t Christians see Pat Robertson as the face/voice of Christianity. Just like Zito being the “face of the Giants”, most casual observers are quite mistaken. When Pat speaks, most Christians think he’s as big of a moron as non-Christians.

As far as I'm concerned
If my grandmother who was raised hardcore Baptist in the south before she moved to Seattle and worked as a Rosie the Riveter during the War, then moved to San Francisco and did loads of LSD in the 60s and routinely beat up other women and drank most men under the table can become a born again as she did in the 80s, anyone can do it.
Brian Wilson likes Guinness? And Jeebus? Fine by me. Just throw strikes, is all I ask of him. It’s highly unlikely I’ll ever exist in a social situation with him anyway so what he does outside of the ballpark means diddly to me.

I remember when I had Webb on my fantasy team
And all the experts were saying how he wouldn’t amount to much. He walked too many people, apparently.
Good call there.

“Zito, suddenly, has lost the command of the strike zone.”
I agree with everything Jon Miller said except for the use of the word ‘suddenly’.

...I think she should pull a Lysistrata and tell him he’s not getting any until he wins a game.

Last time he got hurt in a game,
and got knocked out for about 5 minutes, he stayed in the game after he came to.

It really is astounding.
Even tho both Correia and Sanchez got hit hard their last outings, they at least looked like they were compitent out there.
Zito looks HORRIBLE. I can walk a guy on 4 pitches…
