Trade brewing?
From the AP recap of Tuesday's game
The Giants are waiting until Wednesday to activate RHP Vinnie Chulk (strained throwing shoulder) from the disabled list, perhaps trying to make a trade before bringing him back.

Anyone up for predicting the move?
Here's my prediction: I will write enough words to make this post 75 words long mashed potatoes mashed potatoes mashed potatoes mashed potatoes
EDIT: Looks like the AP stringer was wrong, and Yabu got sent down. The AP story has been revised to say:
The Giants are waiting until Wednesday to activate RHP Vinnie Chulk (strained throwing shoulder) from the disabled list, but cleared roster room by optioning RHP Keiichi Yabu to Triple-A Fresno after the game a day after his first victory in nearly three years.

sorry, to clarify...
The quote I pasted in (“The Giants are waiting” etc.) was from the game notes at the time of the posting.
I did. They should have sent Hennessey down. He had tough luck in today’s outing, but he’s stunk all year.

Henny Penny
looked bad today no matter how many times Kruk and Kuip clucked about his “bad luck” and “bloop hits”. Yabu has looked much better; maybe they’re planning to send Henny down too and bring someone else up.
Or, there’s no plan at all, and it’s just wrong. Hope that doesn’t burst anyone’s bubble.

Can't
He would have to pass through waivers and most likely wouldn’t make it

Yeah
He’s been pretty okay as an innings eater. Plus yestreday he got the first win for a Japanese Giants pitcher since Murakami Masanori. It’d be cool to have Yabu around when Murakami comes to Mays Field for Japanese Heritage Day.
Where have I heard that phrase before?

Damn, that’s a bummer. Hope he’ll be back, though.

I figured Hennessey too. Yabu was more serviceable in a mid-innings role IMO, then Hen is trying to regain some success with the big club. I think it would have done Brad good to get some Fresno innings under his belt.

Mmm .. mashed potatoes.
Still watching out for Notgardo in Fresno. Hope you make it back up soon. We miss you 'round The City way. How come you never call?
You beat me to it.
They’re my favorite kind of potato. Chunky Lemon Garlic Chive Mashed Potatoes sometimes with Onions (which has its ingredients for a name and a name full of ingredients) is the best thing. I don’t need no gravy with those taytoes!

This is fucking bullshit
Yabu has been excellent so far this year. Is he pitching over his ability? Almost certainly. Would he have regressed to the mean eventually? Of course. But seriously, Hennessey stinks up the joint repeatedly, but you send down Yabu? The one savvy vet who’s actually producing for this team???
What in the fucking fuck, fuckers.
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
Honestly, yes, I did
I figured Hennessey getting demoted was the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind. It takes the pressure off the kid, lets him fix whatever mechanical problems he’s having, and reminds him that sucking is not OK.
Instead, the guy who’s been throwing well and not sucking gets sent down. What could the rationale behind this move possibly be? How does this benefit Hennessey and the rest of the club? I simply can’t fathom it.
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
Hennessey's not "the kid" anymore...
...he’s a fourth year veteran.
Besides, isn’t reminding him that sucking is not OK pretty much the opposite of taking the pressure off?
Hennessey is (potentially) part of the Giants future. Yabu isn’t.
Anyway, my “hot hand” calendar says that Yabu is scheduled to end his hot streak and start sucking as of Friday.
2008: My previous assessment may have been overly optimistic.

I don’t think so. Pressure = pitching in high-leverage situations. Taking pressure off = pitching in AAA.
Getting demoted is pressure, but it’s a different kind of pressure. I kinda feel like Hennessey’s been rewarded for sucking, and Yabu gets the shaft for performing well.
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
The Fundamental Problem Is:
Henessey has lost something basic. He will probably figure out at some point this year. However, in the process of figuring it out @ the ML level he will end up losing the Giants games. No such penalty for figuring it out in AAA.

Bochy is a retard
Obviously. Sending henessey down and “fixing” him while utilizing Yabu’s over acheivement helps the team.
Letting Yabu finish off his hot streak in triple A and then regress into nothingness while Henessey sits on the bench, blows high leverage situations, and festers at the ML level is much more par for the course.
Eugeniooooooo!!!!
why the rush to bring back chulk?

Arigato and toodles
I must have been sleeping through Yabu’s hot streak. I mean, he’s been OK, sort of, but Heath Bell he ain’t, and this being the year to figure out who’s going to contribute to the next good Giants team and all that, well, you know, he’s 39. I figured every inning he pitched was a waste.
Twenty-seven years of waiting has come to an end.
Anger
I don’t understand why people are so bothered by sending Yabu down? Everyone moans when management play old players who aren’t very good, over younger players, but then moan when we send down a 39 year old instead of a 27 year old? All this judging over simply a six game span? Seems strange to me, especially as Yabu serves absolutely no long term purpose.

How does this move help Hennessey? How does it help the Giants?
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
We moan when management play old players who aren’t very good any more (see Durham, Ray and Aurilia, Rich). Yabu was, as noted above, giving this team value for money. He was eating innings (esp. the first week when none of our starters could make it through 5 innings) and pitching fairly well.
Do you really think Hennessey can pitch 3-4 innings of mop-up relief at the moment? He can barely get through two innings in 45 pitches. Chulk is just coming off an injury, so I’m not sure he’s your long reliever right now, either. Who, then, takes over Yabu’s role?
Eagerly awaiting Crazy Crab Bobblehead Night on 7/18.

Yabu gives value for (next to no) money.
He’s the anti-Zito.
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
When Lowry comes back...
Zito can be the mop-up guy, doing what he does now in the last 4 innings of a game instead of the first 4.
Of course, if he doesn’t start there won’t be nearly as many mop-up opportunities…
