Open Gameday Thread, 4/12
St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants, Apr 12, 2008 1:05 PM PDT
No television. I can't watch television today, and it still bugs me that the game isn't televised.
We all understand the concept of sample size. There's a reason why we aren't all giddy about Brian Bocock's .359 OBP or thinking about Jack Taschner, All-Star Reliever. With just a handful of at-bats or innings pitched in the 2008 season, it's hard to make a definitive judgment about anything.
I still think it's safe to conclude that Rich Aurilia and Ray Durham are done.

It's like Randy Winn is everywhere. Nightmare making material.
"You're all worthless and weak, now drop and give me twenty!"
I'm ecstatic that Bowker's in the starting lineup, not happy that the game isn't televised.
Proud adoptive parent of Tim Alderson.
That's a bad sign
Speed and defense is down to just speed.

John Boy Bowker
Welcome to "The Show" you Dirtbag. Now if you could only have the season like your buddies Tulo and Longoria.
It's good that they put somebody between Bowker and Bococok in the lineup.
"You're all worthless and weak, now drop and give me twenty!"
This is a great opportunity for John Bowker. Clay Timpner was soooooooo overmatched and with Nate Schierholtz being a little banged up, Bowker gets the opportunity of a lifetime to show his talents. If he succeeds he could make decisions more difficult for the organization.
I wouldn't say Timpner was soooooooo overmatched. I'd put him at sooooo overmatched at the most. I mean, there are some serious sample size issues here.
If you like things that are funny, perhaps you will enjoy ChatterBalks Dot Com?
Timpner
I'm not sure that's fair, but Bowker is obviously the better prospect, so it'll be interesting to see how he does, if Rowand's out for a while.

BOWKER!
For the Giants, this is actually something to be excited about.

Half full vs half empty
Hope the kid exceeds expectations. Bowker began his AAA career struggling in the early season. He does K a lot. Hope he brings some power with the swagger.
Trade Possibilities
Sabean really needs to scour the Tigers system for whatever is left there, because the Tigers bullpen is horrific.
Today's strategy for the Tigers was to leave Verlander in forever, because they have no faith in the pen. They might actually be excited about Chulk and Messenger.
by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Apr 12, 2008 12:37 PM PDT reply actions
that's true. Unfortunately, most of their better prospects were drafted last year. I guess Scott Sizemore at 2B is a possibility. I would be happy with 27-year-old Ryan Rayburn, who would be the best hitter on the Giants.
by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Apr 12, 2008 12:42 PM PDT up reply actions
They did burn the bullpen yesterday,
with Willlis.
ZIPS: Milledge: 466 HR, 485 2B, 2282 hits, 278-379-524
Aquilino Lopez and Jason Grilli (hey, remember him?) pitched 7 of those innings, though.
They did just give up and DFA Yorman Bazardo though - he is an interesting arm and only 23 - and he would really be worth taking a flyer on.

Bazardo
Who would you get rid of, from the bullpen though?
Proud owner of the most boring Username! Alex Hinshaw: Coming soon to a bullpen near you!
Yabu? Taschner?
by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Apr 12, 2008 12:52 PM PDT up reply actions
Yabu's the obvious one, but with Chulk coming back soon, he should be gone anyway. I guess Taschner could be optioned, but he's performing too well to make that likely. Bazardo is interesting, but has poor K rates.
Proud owner of the most boring Username! Alex Hinshaw: Coming soon to a bullpen near you!
True, but he is a sinker/groundball guy. You know, like Munter. Heh.
by North Side Chicago Expatriate Giants Fan on Apr 12, 2008 12:57 PM PDT up reply actions
Their pen is so bad that
even burning out Lopez and Grili probably hurts.
ZIPS: Milledge: 466 HR, 485 2B, 2282 hits, 278-379-524
Tigers have emptied out the farm
With the Renteria, Cabrera and Willis deals the Tigers have pretty much gotten rid of most of their talented prospects. The Angels are also looking for some bullpen help and they had a farm full of talent to raid.
Why isn't this game televised? The NHL playoffs are on NBC, so I'll give them that. There isn't really anything going on on CSN right now though. At least I can watch Yankees vs Red Sox. God bless Fox!!

It’s not time to make a change,
Just relax, take it easy.
You’re still young, that’s your fault,
There’s so much you have to know.
Find a girl, settle down,
If you want you can marry.
Look at me, I am old, but I’m happy.
I was once like you are now, and I know that it’s not easy,
To be calm when you’ve found something going on.
But take your time, think a lot,
Why, think of everything you’ve got.
For you will still be here tomorrow, but your dreams may not.
Go Bowker!
Very exciting; even if it doesn't work out, I'm glad for him. I'm ceding my computer to the little ones for some Nick Jr. games, but i'll be listening on the radio & rooting hard for the guy.

Okay, so when Roberts got hurt, Timpner got called up, because having only five guys on the roster with center-field experience is too risky. But now that Rowand's hurt too, we send down Timpner and bring up a guy who can't play center at all. How does this make sense?
because now the team misses the mighty power of Rowand?
