Good (unexpected) news from Augusta
Out of all the Baby Gigantes, Ramon Corona took the first big step forward tonight that the 2007 draft could have an additional dividend. Corona broke out of a 1-16 start with a 3 HR, 5 RBI and 15 total base night. It has been the first feature story on Milb.com for the night...a shame that it's a shade past midnight now and no mention, oh well! Corona is playing left field and his family lives two doors down from A-Rod in Florida. Also in the game, Nick Noonan got on track and Dan Turpen had another dominant three innings. Don't want to ruin the surprise of what happened in San Jose...I'll leave that for our regular recapper!!!
In honor of Ramon's night, I suggest a drinking game that any watching the Master's, that if any non-contender nails a putt beyond 20 feet it is worth of a shot and if they're still in contention in the back nine, that it's a shot on the odd numbered holes and three gulps of beer on the even numbered ones. Don't worry, you can pick your non-contender unless you want to forget your name or any wagers you have/had.
And if the Giants win three out of four...paint the town red and invite the Cossacks to join ya.

I see that Nick Noonan got his average over .300 with a couple of hits as well. But what's the story with Charlie Culberson?? .036 and 7 errors?? Ugh!!

Culberson
If I'm not wrong, Culberson got off to a slow start in the AZL too. Maybe not this slow, but he was hitting below .200 and then came on real strong at the end to finish up with respectable numbers.
Noonan. Nooooonan!

You're right, I remember that as well. The errors are a definite concern though.

I think
errors really aren't an indication of anything too serious. most are just glove follies or throwing errors. He is just 18 or 19 years old so we have to cut him a little slack. he's still got a plus arm and above average range for short.
I sure wish that Ort Cloud would form a solid sphere to enter into this team's orbit.

The team as a whole has started slow, but Culberson's struggles are the most worrisome of the lot. It could be that he's just fighting himself or that he needs a game or two off. Hopefully it doesn't get to the point where he's taken off the team altogether and put in extended spring training. If his defensive errors are killing his confidence at the plate, that could be a dangerous cumulative effect.

Does anyone know...
...what shape the infield is in Augusta? You hear horror stories of shoddy infields in the minors, particularly the low minors.

Corona
Anyone have a scouting report on him? His college numbers didn't blow me away but they didn't look totally terrible either.

He was an ACC all-star in 2006. Same league as D'Allessio. How did that 400 obp not impress?

I've got nothing...literally, all the talk in the circles I have has been "Wow, he's in Augusta's outfield...and not Neal?" and then they turned into discussions about Neal.
I'll be watching him play in a couple of weeks, and will pay close, close attention.

He's my boy!
As of this morning, I am the proud "father" of Ramon Corona. I am completely embarassed to admit that I know nothing about him. Talk about impulse buying! I just had to have a kid and there he was...looking up at me with those 15 tb's in one game. I promise to learn more and keep everyone posted on his development and inevitable stardom. Look for a posting on Raising Matt Cain very soon. (Yes, that was a shameless plug.)

then how about the dogwoods and the azaleas?

You need to drink to put up with Jim Nantz and his numerous one-line romantic antics. Where's a drunk and disorderly John Daly or a mutated azalea bush to end this national nightmare?
