Open Gameday Thread, 4/11
St. Louis Cardinals at San Francisco Giants, Apr 11, 2008 7:15 PM PDT
Like a bunch of baseball Chuck Yeagers, the Giants were able to break the four-run barrier. Kaboom. You saw it with your own eyes. Winning streak, onward. Today the four-run barrier; tomorrow the, uh, five-run barrier.
The Hardball Times has an interesting/depressing piece on the mechanics of Barry Zito. Six years is nothing to a geologist, so if you keep that frame of mind, this should all end soon.

what an awful lineup. Is Bochy telling Zito that he's so bad we can't possibly win so we're going to rest the best hitters??

So they brought up Timpner because he's a centerfielder and they're going to need one if Rowand can't play. So tonight Rowand can't play and Davis is playing centerfield. I'm sure that makes sense to someone.

Schierholtz is hurt
That's why he wasn't called up. I'll try to find the source.
Here:
The Giants recalled outfielder Clay Timpner because Nate Schierholtz injured his right shin in a game at Triple-A Fresno, Bochy said.
http://www.mercurynews.com/giantsheadlines/ci_8874313
I'd rather have Nate playing everyday in Fresno than sitting on the bench in SF.

Get yer Nattowear
but why bring Timpner up just to sit on the bench too? they ran out of outfielders in Fresno and had to play Leone out there...
Even after Roberts went down there was Rowand (kinda hurt), Winn (kinda hurt), Lewis, Davis, Ort and Velez. Now Winn seems less hurt, Rowand gets a day off, and Timpner enjoys his cup of coffee and big league chew in the corner.

the joys of MLB blackout rules
Now that I'm sitting in a hotel in Portland, I can watch the Giants live on MLB.TV.
I have had a manhatten for two batters,
and Zito hasn't given up a run yet.
just sayin'.

"You're all worthless and weak, now drop and give me twenty!"
I think the CSN gun might be a little hot, the highest FB according to PITCHf/x for Zito was 85mph.
http://www.baycityball.com
I'll go for that. The FSN/CSN gun has typically been hot by 2-3 mph in my experience.

his lack of range is irrelevant, because even when he reaches the ball he can't catch it.

I was in the other room complaining about Flannery. Did Durham bochy a double-play? or would it have been one out.

to be fair, Sanchez didn't have to face Pujols after the Rowand error.

Not really Zito's fault. Mostly the usual Ray Durham hijinks in the infield leading to an inevitable Poo-holes HR.
