San Francisco Giants Band Together To Score Run
MILWAUKEE—The San Francisco Giants put aside their differences Sunday night, working together as a team in a common effort to score a run in a baseball game. The scrappy nine-man crew overcame daunting odds to cobble together the run, as each player used his individual strengths and skills to help string together an unlikely series of events—including a walk, advancement on a wild pitch, an infield single, and perhaps most selfless of all, a ground into double play—that ultimately resulted in a Giant crossing home plate. "This just shows you what a team can do when they put their mind to it," said Giants first-baseman Dan Ortmier, who was swarmed by his celebrating teammates at home plate after scoring the run. The Giants lost to the Brewers 12-1.This FanPost is reader-generated, and it does not necessarily reflect the views of McCovey Chronicles. Yes!
You know you've really made it big when you're mocked in The Onion.
2008: My previous assessment may have been overly optimistic.
That is awesome

pity they misspelled Ort's name
but typical of Wisconsin grads
Billy Hayes: Nine more big-league plate appearances than you.
Especially transplanted to Madison Av. , NYC. Onion really hasn't been funny since it left Wisconsin.

Not too long ago a friend linked me to an Onion article, and the sidebar said, "grenade eating contest gone horribly wrong" for one of the headlines. I'd like to know how a grenade eating contest can go right...
Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

That was awesome! Though I don't understand the part about Ortmeier taking a walk.

another recent appearance...
The Onion recently ran an article about which team might sign Barry Bonds...their entry for the Giants (I'm doing this from memory)
Giants: Could definitely use a power hitter like Barry Bonds after the departure of Barry Bonds.
I nearly fell off my chair. Everyone in the coffee shop looked at me funny. The Onion's still got it, imho.
