2008 Connecticut Defenders

Has the Connecticut Defenders roster been announced yet?  I'm not a Giants fan, but I live very close to Norwich and go to a lot of Defenders games.  If it has been announced, who's on it?  If not, who do you guys think will be on it?  Any information on these players would be helpful as well as I'm not too familiar with the Giants system.  I want to know about the 2008 version of this team before they take the field.  The 2007 version was terrible, but Eugenio Velez and John Bowker are both good players that I enjoyed watching.

Also, who are the candidates for a mid-season promotion to Connecticut?  Is anyone being held down in San Jose until the weather warms up in CT?

Thanks in advance for your responses.

Check out Greg's (not me) Connecticut Defenders blog. He has a tentative roster up on his site.

Adopted Giant Brian Wilson: One of the few reasons to watch this year.

The web site says the roster was released today

Although the roster tab, doesn't show the whole team. Maybe later.

the policy seems to be--younger hitters with potential don't start the year in Conn. and that chilly weather unless they have done well at San Jose. And sometimes not even then. So later you should see Sandoval, and maybe infielders like Burris, Rohlinger, Bocock, if they are doing well.
Plenty of Henry Sosa's group of pitchers coming to SJ from Augusta could come up to you later.

Man, that writer loves using forced adjectives.

There are several moderately interesting guys on that roster...Cowart, Romo, Pichardo for starters. I'm also curious to see if EME or Ishikawa can do anything to regain some standing in the organization.

I'll be interested to see what Witter does in AA. He's already old, so his time is now to move.

OF alignment

With Copeland a CF and RIchardson having a cannon and EME barely able to stand up may I suggest:

LF EME
CF Copeland
RF Richardson

OF

Doesn't Richardson have excellent range that would be best suited for centerfield though?

by SBcaptain2 on Apr 1, 2008 2:22 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

He does. But he also had notable problems switching from center to left in his first season. Richardson is the better CF, though.

I suspect it'll be Richardson in center, Martinez-Esteve in left, and Copeland in right.

Nice to see Cowart make the jump

I'm also glad that Ish and EME didn't get promotions to Fresno. While it may have done them some good to get out of Connecticut, frankly, they would have been unearned.

Bonds stands alone.

Ish

I'd like to see Ish get another month in Fresno at some point this season. Then let him stay or send him away.

Uh-oh Sergio

Thought brother Sergio was being groomed as the closer in Fresno. Where is Pablito? No Pablito? Why no Pablito? Go Eddy Go.

Steve Palazzolo

is also intriguing.

Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

The closer he is to the bigs

The more Naked Gun jokes we're going to get, too!

He is Vengeance. He is the Knight. He is Dave Righetti. PRAY TO HIM!

Adam Witter

With 2 catchers besides Witter, Adam will get a lot of DH time as well - which is good. He should be starting 95% of the games somewhere. I have a hard time seeing him staying at catcher, but will be interested to follow his progress. And if he hits with power, he can play pretty much wherever he wants to.

I'm a bit disappointed that Romo didn't get assigned to Fresno, but I'm sure he'll be there some time this summer anyway.

you think one of those catchers will go away after Pablo gets his promotion to AA?

Catchers in AA

Yep. Barry Gunther, we hardly knew ye. Best wishes at the AT&T kiosk.
