Re: what is happening in game vs Angels
Angels 2-1 after 3, Hennessey giving up two solid hits to give up the go-ahead run after apparently tiring, having retired 8 in a row just prior.

Giants' run in the first: Davis led off with an infield hit, got picked off but advanced to 3rd when the throw from the first baseman hit him in the back, scored standing up on a sac fly by Velez, which was actually a sinking liner that Guerrero came in on.

Truth be told, I liked him as soon as I saw him last year too. Was wondering why he had never been called up. This isn't the first time you've picked up on a stealthy prospect before either.

Since there is no power on this team finesse pitchers are going to be fighting for mound time against them. The only way to counter that is to have a bunch of speed freaks twitching around the basepaths. Makes those finesse guys rush things sometimes and throw a fastball that catches too much plate.

Time will tell.

But he did improve from prior poor outings and did work out of jams. I thought he looked in rhythm and pitched quickly - until runner on board then slowed down. He just missed on a couple of pitches for strikes. He seemed to get a lot of pitches lower in the zone than in previous two outings. It is only March 8th so has a few more outings to progress.

I didn't catch Miller saying anything about where Durham wound up on the bases until he recapped the inning later on, when he said it was a single, Durham not advancing to 2nd until Aurilia walked.

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 3/8
You heard him right. From the Jon Miller Transcription Service, Ltd.:

The Giants have Rajai Davis at third, Eugenio Velez at second, and Fred Lewis at first...

All three of the runners ready to go at the crack of the bat with two down, and we'd like to see them go, because they're all three very fast...

The three runners get their lead. Marek to the plate. Swing and a smash into right center, a base hit.
Coming into score Rajai Davis.
Streaking around third right behind him, Velez. He scores.
Here comes Lewis around third, heading home, and the relay is held by Kendrick.
All three runners score, and we got our wish right there. Durham hit one toward the gap in right center, and off they went.
And that was a shock to see Freddie Lewis also coming around. And not only did he score, there was not even a play made on him. Howie Kendrick didn't even seem to know that he was headed home. 5 to 3 Giants.
A 3-run double for Ray Durham. That ball was retrieved in the alleyway by Torii Hunter well before it even got to the warning track, and still they all scored...

That was some excitement.

Later in the same inning while Timpner was up Mliler recapped the scoring, and at that point he said, "Durham ripped a single past the second baseman into right center", but the original call was what you remembered.

  1. Should SF keep Jose Capellan, offer him back to Boston or try to make a deal to retain him?

And, is there actually a second shooter?

Re: McCovenites listening to Angel game
Fortunato came into the game with the bases loaded and no one out. He got a double-play grounder to short and (I think) another grounder to end the inning with just 1 run scored. Excellent job.

Sadler had a good 9th, after yesterday's very strong outing. I think he struck out 1.
