LaRoche out for 8-10 weeks with torn ligament

So Andy LaRoche ripped a ligament in his thumb while trying to catch a pickoff throw, so he'll be out for the next 2 months or so after his surgery to repair it.  This will probably end the whole competition between him and Garciaparra for the starting 3B job, assuming Nomar can have even a mediocre spring.  But if Nomar does terribly, the Dodgers might look to trade for a 3rd baseman, maybe like Brandon Inge or Joe Crede.  If they did this, LaRoche would probably be blocked out of a spot on the roster and he would be forced down to AAA.  If this happened, could we try to swipe him for some pitchers?  This would be harder now that Lowry's out, but we could find a way, right?  I bet we could try to sell them Sanchez, Hennessey, Correia or someone else that can both relieve and start.  That'd be nice for them because their rotation has a lot of injury possibility with Schmidt and Loaiza.  And also Hiroki Kuroda will probably suck, or at least I think he will, anyways.  But that would give them a pitcher that can fill a rotation spot if necessary, and if not they can take a spot in the bullpen. Any other ways we could try to steal LaRoche from them that aren't Mission Impossible related?

No chance. It was one thing for the Dodgers to trade us Denker, who they stupidly gave up on, but they're not going to trade us a player who not long ago was rated their number one prospect. That would be a massive PR disaster. This isn't a bad Sabean thing; it's just something that doesn't happen.

This was a fluke injury, but I wouldn't offer much until seeing some rehab games since this type of thing raises a caution flag.  Freak injuries have snowballed into a litany of other ailments, which derail promising careers.

I'd easily give them Lowry...one injury for another. Not that even Colletti is that dumb
Frandsen for 3B (til July 08)

Re: LaRoche out for 8-10 weeks with torn ligament
What is this obsession about getting Andy LaRoche?? Coveting Dodger players is a waste of time, because even a poor GM like Ned Colletti is not going to take the risk of one of his players haunting him in a Giant uniform. Even if he doesn't have the classic Dodger-Giant rivalry in him because he was here once, he's going to demand a ridiculous price to trade a top prospect within his own division.
Randy Messenger's biggest fan, although I will drop him like a hot potato when we get Joe Crede

Put your pajamas on...you're dreamin'. Coletti gives you Travis Denker and you let it go to your head.  Remember Orel Hershiser?  Worse, seeing Juan Marichal in a DODGER uniform.  Talk about strange bedfellows.
