Optimism.....Weak

I love my Giants as much as anyone, but it has been a particularly bad week as far as optimism goes. It is only Spring Training, and as of yet it does not really mean anything, but still, "The Force of Optimism" is weakening.

Here is a sample of the battle going on in my head:
Optimist: Merkin Valdez finally looks like he could be the force on the mound most of hoped he could be.
Pessimist: Dude, It's Merkin Valdez.
Optimist:Franny gets moved back to 2B where he  showed potential at the end of last year.
Pessimist: Dude, Did you forget Durham's still on the roster, and Bochy is the Manager ? You know Bochy, the guy who started Castilla every day, even though he stunk up the joint, until the GM DFA'ed him.
Optimist: Fred Lewis is looking pretty good with the bat. He and Rajai would make a pretty good tandem wouldn't they !Speed and Defense ! Even if it takes two guys!
Pessimist: Dude, see Bochy Comment above !
Optimist: Threets looks pretty good. He could be valuable in the pen or as a trade piece.
Pessimist: Dude, He's out of options, Sabes is probably going to forget about it, keep Kline, and lose him on waivers !

Anyway, you get the point. McCoven, Help me see the light at the end of the cellar.....um,er tunnel.

I choose not to think about the young players that might have a chance were they not blocked by the Bochy/Roberts/Durham/Sabean conspiracy - that's just too horrific.

I think Threets and Valdez, though, may be given a chancy. Mostly because they've looked decent in spring and their position seems to be ok for young players in this org.

And Boom Goes the Dynamite

Re: Optimism.....Weak
Okay, so here's a cause for optimism:

After the 2006 season, they said they would get younger, but then signed Aurilia (35), Roberts (35),  Klesko (36) and resigned Bonds (42), Durham (35) and Kline (34). (This part is not the cause for optimism. Wait for it.)

After the 2007 season, they said they would get younger. They signed Rowand (30) and resigned Vizquel (41, but dances like a 28 year old) and are giving serious starting consideration to Frandsen, Ortmeier, Lewis, etc.

In other words, this year they appear to be doing more than just paying lip service with the whole youth thing.

2008: The year the Giants begin to stop sucking.

I feel better now. Not because of your post, but because I had finished a Diet Coke and finally got the burp to come up.
Hoping tk's recovery is faster than Raj going from first to third!

Re: Optimism.....Weak
Sometimes you find yourself in a situation that is so overwhelming, so bad, so ridiculously horrendous that you simply can do nothing other than laugh and try to enjoy it until its over. I think I've reached that point with this team. This Giants team is going to be SO BAD that it just isn't worth getting all worked up over.

Enjoy the season. It's gonna be awful.

At least it's baseball season.

Re: Optimism.....Weak
Sadly, Dan Ortmeier is no Marv Throneberry.

Re: Optimism.....Weak
I'm wondering if I can trick myself into believing that 100 losses is a good target, like

"yeah, they're at 87 losses!  only 13 more to go!!!"

2002? I'm over it. But I'll never be over Rich Aurilia.
