This is his reason. You know, I've actually come to resent just about any positive press the Giants have been getting this year because I can't read any of it as anything but a reactionary sort of "ok, let them back in the club!" media fuck against Bonds.
I miss the negative press. Where'd all the negative press go? Somebody in the mainstream media please talk shit about this team!
what year?

Re: Giants Picked to Win World Series
Actually, they are not a terrible bet at 100-1.
I think they have more than a 10% chance of making the playoffs, considering there is no powerhouse in the division. They probably have no worse than a 7-1 of making the playoffs with a 1-2 of Lincecum/Cain.

Not that I expect the 2008 Giants to win as many as 90 games. I'm celebrating Optimism Week, not Utter Batshit Craziness Week.

Re: Giants Picked to Win World Series
Standard Deviation of win% is about 6.5% or 10 games. If you look at 2007, two teams out performed their expected (pythag) w/l by about 10 games, Seattle and Arizona.
So, if their projected w/l is 73 (totally reasonable), there is ~16% chance they will win 83 or more games and a ~2% they will win 93 or more!
But that is assuming that they actually PLAY like a 73-89 team! (i.e. score ~100 fewer runs than they allow). They could get lucky and actually play like a .500 team!
Re: Giants Picked to Win World Series
Standard deviation from pythagorean record is about 6 games, not 10. That's 3.33 standard deviations, or about 1 team in 1000.

Re: Giants Picked to Win World Series
I found stuff that said 6% which translates to 10 games.

Do you mean there are teams that are "quite good" and the Giants aren't one of them...or that the Giants are almost good, but not quite?
