Open Gameday Thread 3/6

Today's post canceled on account of illness. I'm watching a USFL game on ESPN Classic and sucking my thumb. I think if I type any more, my skull will melt.

sorry to break up the comedy, but i heard the announcer today say that frandsen is no longer going to play SS. he's taken out of that mix because sabean and bochy decided his D isn't up to par, and  that he's now back to "competing" for 2B.

Re: Open Gameday Thread 3/6
I have a question here.

What do you want out of this season? Do you want change, or the best you can get?

I was thinking, and I decided I want the Giants to be horrible. Really bad. 2004 D-Backs bad. The reason I want them to be so bad is that I think it's the only way Sabean will ever get canned, and that there is a recognition on the part of Magowan that the franchise is broken. Only then can the Giants rise again.

Thoughts?

What I want out of every season: great commentary by the one Mr. Jon Miller. Also a good year from my adopted son Notgardo. Those are two things I would like. I'll get the first one. Maybe the second one too.

I also want those Garlic Fries. Like, now.

Still the proud parent of Notgardo Alfonzo; hoping for a perfect spring.

Re: Open Gameday Thread 3/6
I'm kinda over the garlic fries. They're a little too heavy on the garlic, a little too light on the fries.

The Sheboygan brat, on the other hand, is pure perfection. Even if they charge $7 for them this season (which they probably will), it's well worth it.

Re: Open Gameday Thread 3/6
The advantages of this approach are two-fold:
  1. With Sabean gone there is at least the mathematcial possibility that the new regime will be able to identify prospective hitting talent when they see it.
  2. Said new regime then will have a VERY high draft pick to use on said young hitting talent.

What do I want from this Giants team?  I want them to win right now!  Am I the only one (besides all the players) that is happy "roid-head" is outta here?  I haven't really fully enjoyed MY Giants since 1992, because after that they became HIS Giants.

So 2008 is the year that MY Giants are back.  The scrappy small-ballers that I fell in love with as a kid from 1987 to 1992.  Then after a 15-year hiatus, they are back.  Oh I miss and love Ernie Riles, Mike Felder and Greg Litton.  But my new superheroes are Frandsen, Ortmeier & Rajai Davis!

They are finally comfy, and being comfy wins championships!

Incidentally, check out some of the names in that 1899 Cleveland lineup. Harry Colliflower, Ossee Schreckengost, Harry Lochhead, Suter Sullivan, Sport McAllister, Crazy Schmit, Highball Wilson, Lave Cross. Those are some classic names, not even counting Louis Sockalexis.

Good news to offset the Giants loss: The Little League Team I coach played its first game last night and won!

Goofus Jr. (Catcher/Pitcher) performance:

  • 0-0, 2 BB, 2 SB
  • 2 runners caught stealing
  • Save.  Entered final inning up 2 runs.  Gave up 2 doubles, making it a one-run game.  Runner advanced to 3rd on passed ball. (At this point he was dangerously close to getting a beat-down when he got home.  He then had a Tyler Waler moment and struck-out the next three batters to end the game.  Highlight: getting their big hitter to go down swinging out with his first curve ever thrown in a game situation.

Ha..
That looks like the kind of line I put up my last year of baseball.  I couldn't hit a thing, I think I got 1 or 2 hits the whole year.  But I was selective so I either walked or struck out.  And I could steal bags like no one's business.

Re: Open Gameday Thread 3/6

Re: Open Gameday Thread 3/6
Lineup 3/7: Our cleanup hitter is back!!

Roberts, LF    .313
Durham, 2B    .214
Winn, RF    .273
Molina, C    .000
Rowand, CF    .333
Aurilia, 3B    .417
Ortmeier, 1B    .250
Davis, DH    .250
Bocock, SS

This looks a lot like what we could see on opening day, without the DH of course.
