A Playmate for AnVil?
According to Ben Badler of Baseball America the Giants made a 2.5MM
offer to 16-year-old Dominican shortstop, Edward Salcedo, but were
rejected. Salcedo had been rumored two (2) weeks ago to have signed
with the Cleveland Indians which the club now denies. Salcedo is represented
by agent Scott Boras.
MLB has launched an investigation into Salcedo's birthdate and three (3)
investigators have been fired in a developing scandal. At least one (1) of the
fired investigators has been linked to the Salcedo investigation.
In addition to the Giants and Indians, the Arizona Diamondbacks are reputed
to be in pursuit of the Dominican phenom.

AnVil...
It's great to see my nickname for Angel has caught on.
The Giants should seriously allocate more resources towards international scouting. Not just in Republica de Dominicana, but in other countrires in other parts of the world, such as Japan, China, and Europe.

As long as they're talented and can help the Giants win, I really don't care where they come from.
Brian Wilson was checking out pitching talent in India...

China would be a waste of money at this point. I remember trying to explain baseball to some Chinese fifth graders, one of them realised what I was talking about and described it as "that boring japanese game."
feliz gone, team still bad
you
would be surprised. the taiwanese love it and if introduced, the chinese wouldn't be far behind. They're definitely more into it than any country in Africa would be. South Africa is the only country that could possibly field a team. it's a sad dearth of unused talent throughout an entire continent.
I sure wish that Ort Cloud would form a solid sphere to enter into this team's orbit.

There was an event to generate interest in West African kiddos a while back. That's far off from any results that we can see, but I really like the idea of bringing the game to kids around the world.
Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

And the sample of size of your classroom to Chinese population was?
You'd probably get a similar response in a significant amount of American 5th grade classes, but that doesn't mean none of those 5th graders can play the game.
My boy ain't fat, he's just big boned. Big bat, too.
China has 1.3 Billion people.
2 kids looks like a reasonable sample size to me.
You deserve to be struck out, when your first name's a verb.
aiya!
look,
I'm telling y'all that people in China needed a laowei like me to tell them what the Chinese word for baseball was. The game was made illegal during the cultural revolution (see Natto's comment), few people have heard of it, seen it, care about it.
Let MLB try to make a few inroads before the Giants blow cash trying to scout nonexistent Chinese baseball players.

Great nickname
...this is a great choice on your part! Conjures-up an image of the village blacksmith bent over
this great symbol of unyielding strength flailing-away with a hand-sledge on a piece of molten
steel...constantly rendering and shaping matters as he sees fit. All of which matches-up nicely
with Angel's imposing physical presence. Can't wait to see AnVil put the hammer to one of
Kershaw's offerings... can you?

Sofa King Mike...
You're so on the mark with your nick-name and your comments. I can't believe the
Giants didn't follow-up after Murakami. Guess they got discouraged when he went back
to Japan, huh?

I for one (1) think it's good that the Giants aren't satisfied with just one (1) great international prospect, because it would be twice as good to have two (2).

Viva Villa!
Guess it's my mental hang-up, but I always think of
Pancho Villa when I hear this one. Well, to your credit,
he certainly had leadership qualities as I'm sure Angel
will too!
Boras reps for a 16 year old in another country?
I bet he's got his hands in cloning. That bastard probably waits around the neonatal wards of hospitals in the in the carib scouting out babies.
Matt Cain's right hand beats a Royal Flush.
Salcedo
The Giants' 2.5 million dollar offer was rejected months ago. Is this the same story from then or have you heard that they are continuing to pursue him??

Shocking News!
But many think that he's not 16, but maybe a year or two older.

2.5 mill
is a lot for any prospect not named Alfonzo Soraino. I have to remember that An-Vil (best nickname yet) isn't a sure thing...just look at what ha;;ened to Andy Marte, or even our own J.R. Phillips, and is happening to Brandon Wood.
I had about 8,000 Dodger fans tell me that Joel Thurston was going to be a superstar. Whatever happened to him??
