Thought Roberts would bat leadoff and play LF vs RHPs. This line-up should have a little more army to it - left, right, left, right to balance out

Roberts is dealing with a knee issue:

In other health-related developments, left fielder Dave Roberts missed his third game in a row with a sore left knee but should be ready to play Friday against Oakland.

The Rivercats just waited him out, the knuckleball doesn't hit the strike zone much, and the fastball is BP.

by wilriv21 on Mar 27, 2008 7:43 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

are singles overrated?

he doesn't get many of those, either.

when you walk once every 20 at-bats, and you don't make up for it by, say, hitting OVER .253, or slugging over .420, you are not a good hitter. Randy Winn had more extra base hits. Feliz doesn't even have much power. It's just that 20 of his warning-track shots get lucky each year. His numbers will be bloated by that park and people will try to make silly "he's not that bad a hitter" arguments.

Yes. No disrespect to the likes of Rocky Koplik, but just by sitting in the booth with Jon Miller anyone's conversation becomes more interesting.

But all I really meant was the sound of his voice. I'm surprised, even compared with the relatively low fidelity of AM radio, at just how much life something like WMA compression at lower bitrates can suck out of the sound of the human voice.

Of course he's chosen to launch into a protracted monologue for the whole time I've been writing this. Breathe, Doug. Pace yourself.

Bedtime

Parting thought from the East Coast -- it 's more fun to lose to Fresno.

OH COME ON

That's irritating even in Spring Training.

by non sequitur on Mar 27, 2008 8:58 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Would that be classified as speed or defense?

Yes, only a short weekend between us, the Dodgers and Zito. Get all the happiness you can now.

by paboperfecto on Mar 27, 2008 9:06 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I got called away to proofread something my wife is writing. Clearly I missed something unusual. Gameday says, "Ichiro Suzuki lines out sharply to shortstop Brian Bocock. Yuniesky Betancourt scores."

So, wtf?

by 2X2L on Mar 27, 2008 9:06 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Bockock threw to first to try to get the runner off the bag there. While everybody was looking at him being safe, Betancourt skipped home.

by paboperfecto on Mar 27, 2008 9:08 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Excellent. Thanks.

Sad.

Best Neifi moment, by default: scoring on an infield fly.

by 2X2L on Mar 27, 2008 9:10 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I remember that play! It was against the then-Expos, in '03 I think. The Montreal guys complain after Neifi is called safe, and Frank Robinson comes out of the dugout to tell his own players they screwed up.

by non sequitur on Mar 27, 2008 9:12 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yup, that's how I remember it too.

Veteran move on Neifi's part -- I have to admit that he excelled at contributing in situations that didn't require a bat, a glove, or actual running.

by 2X2L on Mar 27, 2008 9:16 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Yes, but a "rally" for the Giants will result in maybe two runs.

by paboperfecto on Mar 27, 2008 9:11 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

good beginnings. I'll take it

by wilriv21 on Mar 27, 2008 9:12 PM PDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

In Aurilia's defense, even the cameraman thought the play was over

by oldjacket on Mar 27, 2008 9:09 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

And the cameraman is paid a lot to decide those things. :)

by wilriv21 on Mar 27, 2008 9:13 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Cameraman?

Perhaps the cameraman should play shortstop while Aurilia sleeps the good sleep. WTF!

by 2X2L on Mar 27, 2008 9:16 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Since nobody claimed it, I vote we give it to wilriv21 in honor of his steadfast participation in gameday threads during spring training. Wilriv21, this is your 2008 Giants run. All in favor...

Team Analysis

This team doesn't need a manager, it needs a keeper. Oh,
and a mother to set-up the batting-tee.

can't wait to watch the Giants beat up Brad Penny and the Bums

by wilriv21 on Mar 27, 2008 10:04 PM PDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well that was disappointing...

Things to take away:

-Castillo is good enough thank you very much.
-Cain's great grandfather must have slapped a gypsy or something the way his luck is going.
-Bocock, good for double entendres, not so much for other stuff.
-It is fun to make the chugging noise of a train when Molina is running the basses.
-Holy shit Velez is fast.

Don't you it's gonna be all right. But not right now.

So I was in a hotel in Washington watching the game.

It was depressing.

I looked up Steve Kline in the dictionary. He wasn't there. If he was, it would have said "pretty okay"
