Open Gameday Thread, 3/26
To your left, there should be an option for "narrow" or "wide" view. That eliminates the only complaint I had with the new format, so we are officially perfect here. Whoop.

Umm...
It doesn't seem to be saving that setting, though. Every time I navigate to another section of the site (comments, fanposts, etc.), it defaults back to narrow.

...I logged out and logged back in, and now this thread is staying with the wide stance, but other fenceposts are still showing as narrow.
2008: My previous assessment may have been overly optimistic.
well actually,
on the old format i found having the little "unread" tag next to a diary (aka fanpost) really nice instead of having to compare the number of unread comments to the total comments to see if i've already read the diary. 'tis a minor quibble, though

That site should be #1 on the threatdown
Coddling bears and bear sympathizers is un-American. They are not to be trusted. Using them as a mascot to strike fear in the hearts of opponents is one thing, but glorifying them is beyond the pale.

Now I have to scroll to the right to see the FanPosts. Maybe this will only be a problem on my work computer, but I was hoping the widescreen option would just shrink the sides panes.
Yeah
The problem is the "wide" is actually just the wide-screen version of the regular site dimensions, so if you have a wide-screen it looks great. If you have a standard screen, though, I imagine things go too far to either side.

lineup stuff
I know this may be a ridiculous thought, but the following is what i'd be content with for a starting lineup for the year. I'm sure you all have more creative and intelligent thoughts on this.
Lewis, LF
Velez, 2B
Rowand, CF
Molina, C
Schierholtz, RF
Aurilia, 3B
Ortmeier, 1B
Vizquel, SS
I know this is a pipe dream because you would have to be willing to sit Durham, Roberts, and Winn, but this is my current favorite lineup.
I dream of Lewis as a guy with Grady Sizemore-type skills. At least their OBP isn’t that different - .390 vs. .375.
We’ve got to figure out what we have in Schierholtz. Randy Winn would be the primary OF backup.
I actually believe this lineup could score enough runs to place us out of the cellar in the West.

I could go for that. My favorite part of the lineup, though, is the Lewis-Velez 1-2 punch. Of course, I'd give anything to get Molina into the six spot where he belongs but i don't want to see Rowand batting cleanup.

Legends Club or McCovey Cove Loft for parties?
The Giants will open the new Legends Club and McCovey Cove Loft this season for fans who prefer a large private party space. The Legends Club is the first and only all-inclusive, high-end entertainment space, located above left field on the Club Level. The Club, which features six high-definition flat-screen televisions, couches and a series of fully retractable folding glass partitions, can accommodate up to 120 people.
The McCovey Cove Loft, which is located in the brick archways of the right-field wall where Rusty the robotic ballplayer used to moon walk out of his shed when the stadium first opened, features a terraced, exterior patio with outdoor seating that sits just 10 feet above the playing field. The suite can accommodate up to 40 people and features 10 flat-screen HD TVs with the capacity for Power Point presentations in addition to MP3 and DVD capabilities.

I find myself rooting for Fresno too, Smothered. I can't help it! It's fun to root for the little guys.
But if, say, Bocock drives in 4 runs for the big club, I won't complain.
In reality...
Rooting for Bocock is rooting for Fresno.
Seeing Durham, Aurillia and Winn in the lineup, makes me wish it was next year already when I'll get to root for Nate and Bowker and Denker.

big league teams are supposed to pummel their minor affiliates. Zito shouldn't have a measly THREE STRIKEOUTS. He shouldn't be giving up 2 runs in five innings. What are you thinking?

It would have been fun to see Molina go 1st to 3rd. Maybe I'll get that chance once or twice during the season when a game is televised.

This may have been brought up before, but why not schierholtz play 1st? He played infield in hs and college.
He was not very good, though.

Good luck suggesting that to groug.
But truthfully..Given the lack of 3B prospects in the Giants organization, and the fact that when Schierholtz played infield he played 3B, don't you think he would have stuck there if he could have?

Some Live Notes from Fresno
Some on-site notes:
Nate saw all of three pitches for his two singles, but both were well-centered hits almost directly to center field.
Zito was really, really shaky to start out, but has been a bit more consistent since (although I missed the Grizzlies tying it while I was coming up to the box from the bunker).
Magowan and the Grizzlies Managing Partner (I think his name was Charlie Cummings?) signed a two year extension of the PDC, so the Giants and Grizzlies will stay affiliated through 2010.
Pat Misch looked good tonight. The only run allowed by him was off of an error. He was living in the 88-90 range with his fastball, touched 91 a couple of times. He also was throwing a cut fastball around 86, and a change and a curve both in the mid-70's.
Most impressive moment: With one out and runners on the corners after Misch walked the guy on first on four pitches, Misch attacked Aurilia. First pitch: Changeup (76), and Aurilia swung way in front of it. Second pitch: Fastball (88), and Aurilia swung way behind it. Third pitch: Curve (76), and Aurilia swung way over it.
On Bocock's double, Frandsen (from his front row chair along the dugout fence) yelled out "Way to go, Bo!........cock...." and just put his head down against the railing and couldn't stop laughing. Good to know these guys are human.
Fresno has a bunch of 'Tecate' girls walking around the concourse...and they would fit well as avatars for some of you guys. At least there's one nice thing to see in Fresno other than baseball.
