Fantasy League?
After spending the last few seasons trying to start up fantasy baseball leagues with people who aren't big baseball fans, and never log in after the draft is concluded, I was thinking that the McCovey Chronicles would be a much better place to get a really good fantasy league going.
Personally, my tastes in fantasy baseball are pretty simple - I've usually played rotisserie rules with standard stats, though I'm open to tweaking those if folks prefer. I've always played on Yahoo in the past, so I'd prefer to use their system unless someone has a really good reason to go with someone else.
Anyway, is anyone interested? If we can get, say, eight or so people interested, I'll go ahead and start up a league. We've only got a few days before the season starts, so it'd be best to start sooner rather than later, but we can always get going after opening day if need be.

I'm in two yahoo leagues, i wouldn't mind another though. Probably best to give my spot to someone else if its limited, but if you need another player i'll jump in.

It looks like we definitely have enough people to get a league started. I'll sign up later this evening and pass on the details.
How does Saturday at 1 PM sound for a live draft?

I've gone ahead and set up the Kevin Frandsen Memorial League. Since nobody indicated any other preferences, I went with a rotisserie league, regular 5x5 stats plus OPS and Holds. The draft is scheduled for Saturday at 1 PM, but if that isn't going to work for a lot of people, I believe I can reschedule.
Max teams are currently set at 12.
To join, go to:
http://baseball.fantasysports.yahoo.com/b2/register/joinleague
The league ID is 261168
The password is bocock
Any complaints/suggestions/better ideas, let me know.
And in case anyone wonder, I've registered as the Temescal Monarchs.

That time should be fine for me. Of course, the moment I type that, something will come up.

I'm in...
The league I was gonna play in got canceled, this is perfect timing. Thanks for setting it up. I'm the F**K Sabeans, and I will destroy you all.
Also, right now its set for a 6x6 with OPS and Holds added to the traditional 5. I'm for ditching holds and OPS and going traditional. Or ditch holds and avg. Mainly I just don't like holds I guess. :)

second
The ditching holds and average.
are there really no bench players at all?
I sure wish that Ort Cloud would form a solid sphere to enter into this team's orbit.

I have it set to the default 5 bench positions. That doesn't show on the roster pages right now - I'm not sure why that is, but I double checked the settings.
I have no problem dropping holds and average if nobody objects.

holds and avg/ops
I'd like to vote to eliminate holds as well. and OPS/AVG is a little bit redundant , it'd be nice to drop one...
and oh, I just signed up as the "stinkers".

I agree on the holds. Just don't want to have to worry about middle relievers.
I prefer using the trad AVG to OPS, just because involves a different set of skills and you get into some interesting tradeoff choices.

anyone want to join an ESPN keeper league

As of right now, we've only got six teams signed up. We really need at least a couple more teams to have a viable league, and I know more folks expressed interest. The draft's scheduled for tomorrow, so don't wait!

I just joined, I've never played FBB before but I'll give it a try.

C'mon, people! Sign up! The season's about to start! Time's a-wastin'!

Yeah, I dunno. I played Fantasy Football for the first time this past year and had some fun. I think I've just been late getting into Fantasy sports. I'm expecting fantasy baseball to be a lot of fun.

I'm just bumping this one more time in the hopes that a few more people see the thread and maybe sign up. We've got seven teams, which isn't terrible, but a few more would be a lot better!
C'mon, folks, just think of the thrill - YOU can field a team of Brian Bocock, Neifi Perez, Armando Benitez, and Bret Tomko! It's like getting to be Brian Sabean, only without the pesky paycheck!

And if you're hesitant to play because you don't know if you can stand up to the level of competition, let me assure you - I always finish in second place in fantasy baseball. Every single time I've ever played, it's been second place. So you can definitely beat me.

FYI, I went ahead and eliminated batting average and holds as statistical categories.
In case anyone missed it, the draft is in four hours, at 1 PM.
And in case anyone's out there, I'm not sure what the cut-off is to sign up before draft time, but until then, we still have four more slots open!
