Open Gameday Thread, 3/25
Giants v. Cubs. Less than a week until Opening Day. We have about a three-week game in which everything is right with the world.
edit: I wrote this at 3:00 in the morning after I fell asleep on the couch with the laptop on my lap, and then I scheduled it to post this afternoon. It makes absolutely no sense. I'm not sure what it means. I have no idea what I thought it meant. It might be the best thing I've ever written. We'll let history decide.

The White Sox announced that they'll open the season with Joe Crede at third base and Josh Fields in the minors.
and more good news:
Blue Jays released catcher Sal Fasano.
Fasano wanted out if he wasn't going to make the team, and it was clear he wouldn't from the time that Rod Barajas was signed. Perhaps he'll land with the Tigers or Giants.
Congratulation, we've found a GM on par in dumbassery with Sabean.

from Rotoworld
Andy Marte made up for a two-error game by launching a three-run homer off Darrell Rasner in the top of the eighth to lead the Indians to a 7-5 win over the Yankees on Tuesday.
Marte is up to six errors this spring. He's even making them on routine plays now, suggesting that he's feeling some pressure and not handling it very well. Despite his struggles, the Indians are likely to keep him. He has five homers to go along with his .204 average in 49 at-bats.
from BP chat with Christina Kahrl
BrettG (Worthington, OH): If Eric Wedge is impressed with Andy Marte (it Marte looks like he will be on the Opening Day roster), why not move Casey Blake to an OF corner and play Marte at 3B. Blake could replace the Dellucci/Michaels platoon and I think Marte could be better than that platoon, which makes the move an improvement for the Indians.
Christina Kahrl: Blake's a pretty brutal outfielder, and not an especially strong bat for an outfield corner, and Marte may not be a defensive improvement on Blake at the hot corner in the first place. The real question is whether or not Marte's going to recapture some fraction of his former promise, and I wouldn't necessarily bet on that. He simply isn't as good as all of us--prospect mavens, scouts, statheads, you name it--projected him to be.
Boy , this game is dragging.
