Just wanted to get a show of hands

I just got through reading Brute's minor league camp updates (really great stuff) and saw that a great deal of you really are hungry for getting updates from the minors. Well I'm about 8 blocks from the home of the AAA Grizzlies where I work, and have season tix and attend a ton of games.  I'm fairly in touch with a number of people in the organization (I market my business with them) and get a chance to talk a lot of baseball.  I know I'm not near the writer most of you are, but if there is enough show of hands, I'll try and keep you all updated on the goings on here in Fresno maybe once a week or so.

Your call.....

Updates Appreciated

I'm certain I speak for many others in saying that your efforts would be very much appreciated. Thanks, in advance, for offering to be our Grizzlie correspondent....

Sounds great

Steve's minor league updates are one of the best parts of this site. (Way better than Grant's rambling non-sequitors.) More minor league info would be appreciated.

Eagerly awaiting Crazy Crab Bobblehead Night on 7/18.

I like to think of them more as rambling regular sequitors, but I guess there's room for interpretation either way....

Let's compromise, call them rambling semi-sequiturs. (Note spelling. Unless we're talking about Sequitor Prime, leader of the Reasonobots. In which case, never mind.)

Take my advice...

a Show of Hands

you should be able to find cheap used RUSH cds at amoeba or Amazon.com.

Maybe not as good as the Grace under Pressure tour video, but still a classic.

Please. In fact expect some emails from me as I'm the one responsible for Fresno reports this year for SF Dugout. If you don't mind being my mole that is. I can even compensate you generously with home baked cookies and brownies. Don't worry, I won't put crack in them.

You're in luck, friend. I make kick-butt oatmeal raisin cookies. The secret is ground cloves in the dough. Do you prefer your cookies male or female (with nuts or without nuts)?

I also bought some cookie dough from my boss' kid for his baseball team fundraiser. If you like pumpkin chocolate chip, I can send some of those along too.

Harsh, we don't come here for great literature or stat analysis, we come for the gritty, on the spot observations. So...I'm enthused about hearing more from Fresno! It sounds like a good thing that you get home without using a vehicle.

Absolutely! I'm all for responsible inebriation and beer-sotted prospect reports. I live a mere two blocks from the ballpark myself - it's just that there's an hour-long train ride in the middle there.

I actually get home, thank god, cause I have a buddy that doesn't drink. That 99% of the time is usually a good thing. I actually have a shop not far from the ballpark, my home is in the suburb of Clovis. Down town Fresno is a great place to work and visit...... you just don't want to live there..

Oh and By The Way...... Lets give a big shout out to the City of Fresno's Marketing department who's latest and greatest new catch phrase is "FRESYES"!!!!!!!

Gotta love Fresno

Had lunch the other day next to Alan Autrey. He's done a decent job as mayor but you can only do so much with Fresno. Most people not from around here don't realize that it's even smoggier than LA. And my god, the summer heat. It is about this time every year I start dreading it.

That being said, it's a great minor league ballpark and I love how it resembles AT&T in its basic layout.

Alan Autry

I thought Mayor Autry wasted his second term as mayor chasing after big projects: Trump's Running Horse Golf course, a man made river for downtown etc when a better method would have been a lot more of the smaller less glamorous steps that have been proven to work elsewhere: facade removal on the Fulton Mall, PBIDs (Property Based Business Improvement District) to break the very large downtown into smaller districts. He actually shot down the PBID process last year but now that he actually knows what it is he has now come around to embracing it . How much farther we could have been by now if he had taken the time to figure it out last year?
That said I will be at the game tomorrow night in the Superview 118 with the family in tow. My wife works downtown and we live about a mile and half from the park. I wish I could attend more games but life gets in the way.

Running Horse

Yeah, Running Horse has been a major back-and-forth disaster. Hard to ever see the PGA coming anymore. He did seem to play into the idea of making Fresno bigger and more important than it actually is. It's a big city for the Valley, but let's not kid ourselves, it's no LA or SF.

LA

I sure hope Fresno never turns into the LA with congestion and sprawl and turns into SF like the more densely packed mixed use parts of town. If we don't change our planning methods it will be more the LA style , unfortunately.
The valley is going to explode in population in the next twenty years whether we want it to or not. The good planning needs to start now. If we do it correctly we will get the PGA and all the other good stuff and a nice place to live as well.

My hand is raised...

Maybe I'll see you on Wednesday. It looks like I'll be healthy enough to attend after all, though I'll have to drive up from Phoenix pretty early Wednesday morning.

Hopefully, I won't be hobbling around too much there, but if you see a press guy walking slow and unbalanced, say hey.

Will do Brute... keep your eyes open for me. I'll be the one aimlessly walking around the ballpark double fisting Bud Lights with a camera around my neck and a big dumb redheaded guy in tow.

Couple of tips for your visit to "The Chuck"- about two blocks south of the ballpark they have opened the meters and if you can bring enough change with you you can get away with parking for 3 bucks instead of 5.

When looking for food- Go to the Bobby Salazar's booth. They make one mean taco salad

oh and enjoy our first year of actually wearing the same color as our big league team. Those green and orange uni's were just Horrid....

The more minor league information & opinions the better, especially when the season starts & people are depressed with the major league club!

True, more depressed, would have been more accurate. At least there's the usual pre-season excitement, the joy of watching young players who won't play in the regular season & the smaller amount of coverage, to keep us occupied at the moment.
