Betemit
Anyone figure Wilson Betemit can still play short? I mean, you'd get him as a 3b/1b, but use him as a backup at short? Probably no better than Franny/Velez at SS.

don't have an answer but am sure Sabean & Co are scouring other teams. Vizquel is old and will need time off often during season so a decent back-up will be needed for the full season.

velez
my boxscore says they did the old 2b-3B switcheroo between Velez and Leone. Now, Leone has been a lousy 3B all Spring. Bunch of throwing errors early. So that is quite a statement, if they'd rather have him at third instead of my man Eugenio.
adopter/sponsor of "Go, Antoan" Richardson
by foothillsfan on Mar 20, 2008 3:09 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
Not sure about that
It's not the regular season. They could be thinking that they just want to observe both of them at the position. After all, while Velez may be better with the glove (today's error notwithstanding), most would agree that Leone is better with the bat. You probably won't enter the season with both. So, find the known quantities, and compare.

pretty sure that the writing is on the wall for Leone. I mean, they brought over Rohlinger, right? That's saying something.
by BigO on Mar 20, 2008 3:15 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
or else
they realized Leone could play every position in the same game if they hurry up, the ol Bert Campaneris trick. Its useful, too, somebody has to be that emergency 4th catcher after all.

It is indeed sad that some Giants fans are all ready to go crawling back to Barry... "Please, Barry, give us a reason to go to games!" :-)

"Crawling back" to Barry???
I'm pretty sure you mean "are ready to welcome back." It's the front office or ownership who would be crawling back, not the fans. Not that they're going to, because they're not. And they shouldn't at this point. But the fans never, never put themselves in a position where they'd need to crawl back.

Welcome Back?!
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't welcome back Barry, but I do see your point... it is the management who would be crawling back to Barry, and it'll probably happen come mid-season when we've only won three games and have averaged only 1.1 runs per game... Oh, well. I guess we better get used to last place.
I remember the year the Sharks set the record for worst NHL team ever. It was a rough year. But the very next season, we knocked off top-seeded Detroit in the Miracle on Ice 2.
