Bocock to play the field

soon we will hear Renell say, "Brian Bocock!"

San Jose Giants website, citing a Sabean statement to Merc News, says BB gets the opening day start at SS

here's a quote, sorry, MercNews:   Sabean told the San Jose Mercury News on Wednesday that he’s unconcerned that Bocock hasn’t played above Class-A. "He'll have to play the little game till he gets his feet on the ground," Sabean said. "He's making more contact this spring, that's the good thing."

I don't think Renell will say "he'll have to play the little game"

SJ's emails to fans are pretty good for news bites

If he bats in the 8 hole and plays solid D, well I suppose there's worse we can do.

per the rumor mill

Bocock likes to hit the high hard ones.

I'm pretty sure

he likes catching them more. since he's so good on defense.

I sure wish that Ort Cloud would form a solid sphere to enter into this team's orbit.

Things I can't wait to hear Kuip say

"Bocock's got two balls on him..."

Things I can't wait to hear Kuip say :"Bocock's got two balls on him...

This has got to be my favorite Bocock joke so far :-)

Waiting eagerly for Kuip's commentary.

My adopted son Matt Downs. He's sort of like Bill Mueller without the "two flap" helmet.

Re: Bocock to play the field

Well he is a little too young to settle down.

Don't think, it could only hurt the ballclub.

by ResDog on Mar 19, 2008 5:56 PM PDT   0 recs

Well

I wonder if he could hit better than Vizquel. From what I hear, his defensive value will already be higher than Omar's just because OV has so very little range these days and not much in his arm.

Does anybody think that Bocock could hit better than Vizquel?

btw

I say this as somebody who is very, very pessimistic about Omar Vizquel's bat,

He is Vengeance. He is the Knight. He is Dave Righetti. PRAY TO HIM!

I'm sorry

but the comments lacked penis jokes.

Only a warning, not an immediate ban?

kenshin1, you're going soft.

You forget

Howie could now ban his right back.

I looked up Steve Kline in the dictionary. He wasn't there. If he was, it would have said "pretty okay"

And his left one, if I wanted.

It would be a worse punishment to leave him half a man.

Bocock had 31 errors last year.

In those same 126 games he only hit .243/.312/.344 in hitter friendly leagues.

So you're saying "NO!"

Got it.

Most of those errors were on plays that he shouldn't have tried to make. He's got exceptional range, soft hands and a very strong arm.

I think he could hit better than Vizquel

I also think it's very very very very very very unlikely. But not impossible. So he could.

injuries

It's pretty sad that it takes injuries for Sabes to play the young guys... Here's for hoping we have injury plague and it's contagious.

I guess...

Bocock will stay up for a while longer?

by zenbitz on Mar 19, 2008 9:39 PM PDT   0 recs

he is young and excited so he can

by wilriv21 on Mar 19, 2008 9:48 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Actually

If he doesn't, Sabean will have a hand in giving him his release. Ironically, it won't be a happy ending.

cant figure it out

I still don't see why Ochoa doesnt get the start
Ochoa 2007 AAA- .296/.337/.430; FP - .944
Bocock 2007 A-+ .243/.312/.344; FP - .951
is the .006 % points the determining factor here? I mean come on OCHOA DID IT IN AAA which is a lot harder than A and that is a scientific fact (had to quote Ron Burgendy)
I see that bocock has a lot faster than ochoa but isn't davis, roberts, velez, and kinda winn enough speed? Someone please explain this simple logic to me

"But if he's swinging at real flies, well, in that case there are two definite solutions: 1) Fresno 2) Ritalin." - howtheyscored

You didn't Bocock's PFPJ* into the mix.

ochoa

I assumed it would be Ochoa, he was up at a high level all last summer, Figueroa was the starter, but Ochoa played in spurts all over the West, especially in the Valley.
Fielding percentage doesnt tell the whole story. I think Ochoa muffed some very visible balls this Spring, so Bochy wonders if he will perform when needed.
While Bocock has that smoothness and slickness an old guy like Boch appreciates.

spurts, muffed, balls, perform smoothness/slickness...I think this post might be a record for the Bocock jokes.
