Wait....What?....
The Giants transaction page on March 12th had two new messages: 1)Jose Capellan was claimed off waivers by the Reds 2)Randy Messenger was released. A week earlier, the page said that Messenger was optioned to Triple-A Fresno....And then today I come to find that the Giants have agreed to terms with Randy Messenger on a minor league contract. So what was the deal with all this movement?
Now, the news hasn't been posted on the transaction page yet, but with comfirmation of Chris Haft, the Giants insider and MLB writer, it is official. He did not say what the cause of this entire situation was, but speculating about this leads to the belief that: it had to be done this way in order to remove Messenger from the 40 man roster. That appears to be one major reason... but who knows, it could just be a plethora of moves with Messenger.

I'm pretty sure it served no purpose other than to get him off the 40 man. Perhaps to make space for Bocock...
In case it was hard to tell, that last sentence came with a complimentary eye roll.
He is Vengeance. He is the Knight. He is Dave Righetti. PRAY TO HIM!

Actually there was already two spots open before moving Messenger

We actually need 3 open slots for Bocock to fill, as per the "humerous pun" clause in his contract.

If I understand this right (BIG if) - He was designated for assignment, cleared waivers and at his request was given his outright release. Players with sufficient major league experience will often request this rather than accept reassignment to triple-A.
Apparently he and his agent overestimated the market for flat-brimmed meatheads with inexplicably bad stats as he has now signed a minor league contract with the Giants.

I don't think it was exactly for that reason..
I think it went this way..
1. Messenger optioned down to AAA. He didn't like it. He complained too much. So...
2. Messenger was released. Then he learned that no one really wanted him. So...
3. Messenger resigned with the Giants, who were only willing to give a minor league contract to him.

Okay I just died a little bit. That is too freaking adorable for words.
Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.
