The Giants are offering much less for Joe Crede than the White Sox want in return. You wonder if, at some point, the Giants' perspective might become: We know we are in for a rough year and what is the point of trading a B-plus type of prospect for a Scott Boras client who is coming off a back injury and is certain to test the market at the end of the year? In other words: What's the point? If you can make the deal for a non-prospect -- a player from your system who you don't think has a lot of future -- then sure, make the deal. But Crede is a pricey one-year option, and will make no difference between the Giants struggling or not, so why give up anything for him. Clearly, it's a rebuilding year, so the Giants might as well keep their prospects and take their lumps.
I'm afraid of that "you wonder if" part, it's crazy that we have a gm where we DO have to wonder if this isn't the way he thinks, when it is so obvious to most everyone else.
