Lineup
Rowand in the 2-hole? Bochy should be trying anything at this point...
Roberts, LF .267
Rowand, CF .267
Winn, RF .375
Molina, C .444
Durham, 2b .387
Aurilia, 3B .333
Ortmeier, 1B .189

like the L/R balance of this line-up moreso than yesterday's line-up that had a lot of RHHs back-to-back

I'd much prefer Rowand batting 2nd to Rowand batting 5th behind Bengie.

At least Rowand is finally in the right slot. Sadly, I don't expect it to last. I actually think Molina is the best option as a cleanup hitter v. lefties. I know, that's sayin' something. Are we facing one today? Can't be, if Roberts is leading off, right?

Sanchez
In Jonathan Sanchez first outing he went one inning and allowed three runs. In his second outing he went two innings - in the first inning he gave of two runs and in the second inning he gave up one run. In his third start he went three innings of no earned runs. Now in his fourth start he pitch a another fine inning. He seems to be improving and taking control of an opportunity.

Our 6th is Nate.

what does this mean? Do you think he should start over Lewis?
by BigO on Mar 14, 2008 2:02 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yes
Roberts is a solid LF and leadoff hitter vs RHPs. He is a constant in clubhouse. I am a big Lewis fan - he reminds me a lot of Devon White. Lewis is in the middle of scoring rallies and should be the 4th OF with plenty of ABs
by wilriv21 on Mar 14, 2008 2:05 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Well, I disagree, but it is likely to be the way things are. I really don't have a big problem with Roberts, but it's just time (and the right team) that Lewis gets to start.
by BigO on Mar 14, 2008 2:11 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Roberts vs Lewis vs Roberts
Roberts could start vs RHPs, leadoff and still a ton of bases. Lewis could get plenty of starts in all three OF positions. Davis would be a late inning defensive replacement.
by wilriv21 on Mar 14, 2008 2:13 PM PDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah, right. Or you could reverse the whole thing, with Roberts getting the 4th OF starts. I think Davis should start and lead off against lhps.

Roberto Kelly on Eugenio:
Asked how Velez's combination of speed and power measured up against players from his era, Kelly quickly offered the name of future Hall of Famer Rickey Henderson.
"He may even have more home run power than Rickey did," said Kelly, who roamed the same outfield with Henderson as a member of the New York Yankees.

From Jayson Stark's blog talking about the league's worst teams:
Giants: "You watch that team, and it's actually depressing," said a scout that has watched way too much of the Giants, apparently. ... "The talk of Arizona," said another scout, "is, how bad will the Giants be?"
But it's hard to find scouts who don't think the Orioles and Giants will lose 100.
Hard to argue.
