Interesting just had a "New Comments" window pop up like somebody signed on to AIM or something. Don't know whether that's good or not yet.
I hope all my comments if they are negative aren't construed as I hate the site. I might not like it but I always need to get used to it and I just have to comment to myself and others about it

I really do kind of hate it, but I guess it's better than the layout I had in that nightmare two weeks ago where the two places I frequent on the internet got the absolute most disgusting layouts anyone could ever think of. This one isn't quite that bad. But ... eh. I'll get used to it.

Like I said, it's probably just that it's so different. Though this comment auto-refresh thing is kind of frightening me with its suddenness. The whole thing feels a bit busy and cluttered compared to how it was before. But I'm sure in a year's time, I'll have forgotten that there was ever a previous layout in the first place.

I know this question wasn't specifically to me..
But I'm going to answer here a bit too. It's too busy. I liked how simple the old setup was. And I know Grant was going off on me about that too, but I liked how it was simple. I'm sure it'll be just as easy to use, it'll just take some time getting used to and familiarizing ourselves with the new stuff.

I think if I see a problem so far, it's that the comment/view counts don't seem to be updating in the sidebar.

keyboard shortcuts
you can cycle through new comments with the 'c' key and mark them as read with the 'x' key
or you can just use the 'z' key to cycle through them and mark them as read as you arrive on each one
and you can press 'r' to reply to any comment you've cycled to

Agreed. The layout is alright and I'm sure it'll grow on me but I mostly don't like the little narrow center column in the middle of blank space on either side type of design. I like more of a spread out page that's wider instead of narrow.
But like I said, I'm sure it'll grow on me.

I assume they did AN first because they are the busiest. One it's a brave thing to do because you'll have a lot of bug reports to go through because of the high amount of users. But two it's smart because you can get a lot of bug reports and get those fixed quicker.

Wow, different different.
I refuse to use auto-refresh for comments. My puny brain can't process having to mark comments as read AND keeping track of new ones coming in at the same time. Otherwise shiny shiny my eyes have to get used to it.
And I hope my avatar isn't too small because if it is, it'll just look like a dodger logo and nobody will catch the fine artistic detail that totally pwns LA.

From what I've tested out..
I use the "z" function until I get to the bottom of a thread that's new. Then after that and when it's refreshing I'll use "c/x" so I don't lose where the post was. So yea just try it out a bit.

based on feedback from communities that have lived with them awhile, our current size is noticeable, but not annoying. as we migrate more SB Nation blogs we'll keep listening to feedback on that.
however, the idea of providing an option to hide them is definitely under consideration.

Making the avatars bigger is only a good idea as long as you get an option to hide all of them. I'm just afraid the screen will get to "busy".

I would say the same..
But In my mind it's not a question. I've never been on a site that has such small avatars. I know they get bigger when you go to the profile, but every other site I've been on has at least 50x50 avatars, usually 75 or 100. But then again I haven't really been a part of an avatar using site for quite a few years now so maybe times have changed.

They say right click and click adblock but it won't give me the option on flash ones.

Hmmmm...that's a tough one. It's been such a long time since I fiddled with those settings. Try downloading the NoScript plug-in too. That seems to block all them difficult Java/Flash based ads. I think that's all you need.

You have to do the "Overlay Flash" option. It's probably in your tools menu. IDK if you use a mac, but if you do, it's shift+apple+f. I don't know the shortcut on a PC.

Is there a way to mark every new message in the current fanpost/whatever as "read"? I just created my new account, checked out this fanpost which had about 150 comments at the time (obviously all new to my new account) and read through it by, alas, scrolling. That weird popup whatchmacallit thing shows up at the bottom saying there's a new message. I know enough to hit "C", with the intention of looking at this brand new message, but of course it takes me to the very first message of the thread which I have as of yet to indicate I have read. I mean, if I check out a new thread which has 1000 comments, am I going to have hit "C" 1000 times to indicate to whoever/whatever that I've read everything?

I'm such a lurker I feel like I don't have the right to make a feature request, but it seems like a "Mark all as read" button on the top of a post would be very helpful. That way you don't actually have to keep pushing "z", but can still keep track of new posts.
