I say Rowand hits 17, and displays much warrior spirit in so doing.

It's a contract year, so Durham will hit 22 and Sabean will give him 3 yr/$21million.

I'm going with PTBNL.

Okay, I'd say Rowand, who will hit approximately 20 with a +- of 3 homers.  I'd take the minus.

The Giants HR leader for 2008 will be...
The statue of Willie McCovey.

It will be a close competition, but the statue will narrowly beat out Lou Seal by the end of the season.

I predict Fred Lewis, with 19. As a part-timer.

I would have voted for Nate, but I'm now convinced he'll be sent down to Fresno while the warrior-spirited veterans clog the SF outfield.

Let's not forget our own Rob Schneider, who took a turn as a semi-baseball star in Benchwarmers.  He might just have enough veteran savvy right there to make the team.

True. Willie Mays himself taught him how to get his stance right a couple seasons back.

I remember Joe Lefebvre just staring at both of them like an idiot and not taking notes.

Quick, somebody use HoustonGMs updated 2008 rosters and sim a season with the projected starting lineup! That should answer this question difinitively, once and for all!

I'd do it myself, but BM09 won't be out for at least a couple weeks and I don't have BM08.

Re: Who Will Lead the 2008 Giants in HRs?
Rowand's topped 13 HR in a season twice in his career.

He's also very inconsistent with his seasons, so I'd expect him to hit 15-17 at the most.

I think Molina will get it, IMO.  Unless . . .ANGEL VILLALONA!!1!!1!

Lyle,

We're just the only ones that can see the true talent of Matt Downs and Fred Lewis :-)

I like to think of myself as the "anti-sabean". Very few of my ideas for improving the Giants include veteran savvy.

Re: Who Will Lead the 2008 Giants in HRs?
Well, to be truthful, I'm not a big Lewis fan. Which is why I think my prediction is so sad. Of course, on a team this bad, he should absolutely be starting in leftfield because we're desperate for his hitting ability, regardless of his defensive...er...mishaps.

In my ideal world, John Bowker takes over in LF next year. And Sabean is fired this winter. And world peace spontaneously breaks out. And even more important, Matt Downs destroys AA pitching.

Re: Who Will Lead the 2008 Giants in HRs?
You are correct about Freddie's fielding finesse. I am not sure there is much of a difference between Lewis and Roberts in regards to fielding however. Lewis just makes it scary every time, but still seems to perform at least at a serviceable level, with a better bat.

I have not "seen" much of Bowker. He looks good on paper, Spring 2008 notwithstanding. At this point, I am in the "any young guy with a bat" camp. What could it hurt ? Could we really be any worse ? Do not answer that.

Rowand (15). Molina will hit 12 or so, but none of Winn/Schierholtz/Ortmeier/Lewis will hit more than 10. At least not for the Giants.
