Open Gameday Thread, 3/12

Things will change around here...tomorrow. The site will be taken offline for a few hours sometime tomorrow evening.

For now, though, it's time to Lincecum on and feel the noize. If I were to write a rap song about him, it would include a passage like this:

"Blowing heat up in the spot, just 23 years old
Fighting through groin pains like he was Tracey Gold."

That's if I were to write a rap song about him. I still have to finish my two-disc rock opera about him first.

As much as I don't mind the changeover and even look forward to some things, that's a minor annoyance I plan to be minorly annoyed about in a big way.

The good thing about worrying if Bengie Molina in the fourth spot will end the first inning with a double play is that it means at least two of the first three Giants' batters have reached base.

I don't get it either. When we signed him, lots of people (including Chris Haft from MLB.com)were like
"Yay new best hitter!!!!!!!!!!Let's bat him eighth!" He's faster than Molina, and probably has more power.

I've been wondering: I assume Gameday is kind of messed up right now, since it seems like every pitch in an at bat is in the same place, every walk is on four straight balls, and every strikeout is on three straight swinging strikes (at least the ones I've seen).

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 3/12
Capellan is gone:

The Reds claimed LHP Jose Capellan off waivers from the Giants.
The Giants were going to send the Rule 5 pick back to Boston, but the Reds, who had already returned their Rule-5er to Atlanta, opted to step in and take a look at the left-hander. Capellan spent last season in short-season ball, finishing with a 3.69 ERA and a 71/11 K/BB ratio in 75 2/3 innings. He has a chance to be a decent reliever someday, but he's a long ways off. The Red Sox still figure to get him back.

Capellan
SF spent $50k to get a look at him and would get $25k back if they returned him to Boston. Does SF still get the $25k from Reds now that they have claimed him?

Re: Open Gameday Thread, 3/12
I doubt it.  The Giants fan who told me about the Rule 5 pickup thought it was the other guy.  I looked Capellan up, found both, and e-mailed him back that I wished it had been the younger one.

Even though it didn't work out, I still like the pickup.  It was a low-risk (money-wise) attempt to get younger and better.

Rap song? I think the rock opera has more potential.

"Baseball Wizard" performed by "The How"

Ever since I was a young boy
I've played the horsehide ball;
From Piedmont down to Carmel,
I must have played them all.
But I ain't seen nothin' like him
In no amusement hall.
That short, thin, Tim guy
Sure throws a mean baseball.

He's a baseball wizard,
Dressed in orange and black.
A baseball wizard,
Got such a supple back!

How do you think he does it?
(I don't know)
What makes him so good?

Well, he ain't got no distractions,
He tunes out all the yells.
Don't see runners on base,
Must pitch by sense of smell.
Always has a loose arm,
Ices not at all;
That short, thin Tim guy
Sure throws a mean baseball.
