Vegas over/under for Giants' wins: 71.5
This page shows the over/unders for the 2008 season. According to Vegas, the bums are favored in the NL West followed by Arizona, San Diego, and Colorado. It's all pretty close though.
The teams that are supposed to be worse than the Giants are Washington, Pittsburgh, Florida, and Baltimore. I was surprised by Minnesota at 72.5 (79 wins - Johan/Hunter/Garza + Delmon/Liriano/random parts = 7 wins worse?) and Tampa Bay at 73.5 (their bullpen can't be as bad as last year, can it?).
As for the Giants, well, that sounds about right. I'm going to take the over because it's still spring training and my adopted son Denker is going to slug .600 for no good reason.

The shame is that when Angelos bought that team he essentially acquired a license to print money. Remember he bought the O's and Camden Yard out of receivership (Eli Jacobs was forced to sell them off during bankrupcy procedures) paying bottom barrel prices for one of baseball's best franchises, a good talent base (they went to the playoffs in two of Angelos first 4 years as owner), and a stadium that was the jewel of baseball and sold out every night. On top of that, he owned the regional cable sports network that broadcasts their games.
Somehow, long before the Nats came to town or the Red Sox became the dominant team in baseball, Pete turned all those advantages into nothing, and now he sits atop one of the game's worst organizations, a stadium that's empty every night of the year except when the Yanks or Red Sox come to town (and then is filled with fans of the opposition) and a seriously compromised revenue base.

I was just commenting that even if all those problems were solved, it still wouldn't put them in a favorable position.
Re: Vegas over/under for Giants' wins: 71.5
The best the Giants have are three pitchers with potential. No stars. Just potential. They can't hold good teams close except sporadically and even then it will be on the wrong end.
When you are talking about a team where everything would have to go OMG! right (shutouts, no-hitters, 50 hrs from Rowand and Molina etc.} just to break even we're looking at total pathos and no hope. None. The end is near. Repent

Maybe Jeff Niemann too. That'd be nice.

73+ wins = Happy (Would love to avoid 90 losses)
68-72 wins = Content (played to talent level)
67 & under = Upset (I thought we had 'Warrior Spirit'?)

Under: Seattle, St. Louis
Just about Right: S.F. Giants
My gut tells me that this is the year that the Yankees lineup gets really old really fast. I trust in agent Colletti's ability to bring down the Evil Empire, but not enough to put money on it.
Anyone else feel like Washington could drop some jaws?
Re: Vegas over/under for Giants' wins: 71.5
Giants however, holding steady at 71.50. <sigh>
There is some value to be found on the Over, if you poke around. It can be had for Even odds, where as most future bets will be assessed a 10-15% juice/vig/commision.
Re: Vegas over/under for Giants' wins: 71.5
I think Tampa Bay will do better than that, how much better is difficult to say.
Re: Vegas over/under for Giants' wins: 71.5
On the other hand, we seem to be playing to lose this year. It's hard to be bullish on a team whose management just doesn't bother to fill holes at two key positions, and that plans to give significant playing time to the likes of Kline and Roberts even though better options are already on the roster.
All in all, I'll take the over, but not with much confidence.
