Klesko done.

Here's a snipit from rotoworld:

Free agent Ryan Klesko told former teammate Chipper Jones that he's opted for retirement.

The Red Sox were believed to have some interest in Klesko before signing Sean Casey, but no one else had gone public with any desire to add him.

Re: Klesko done.
That's funny, I thought he was done when he was throwing his helmet every time he struck out last year. Best news of the offseason!

(which doesn't say much)

Bummer. I know someone who's going to be very upset.

For some reason when I read your comment in that thread, I immediately started singing it to the tune of "We're not gonna take it."

Re: Klesko done.
You can retire, Ryno, but stay close to the phone. We have Dan Ortmeier at first base.

Re: Klesko done.
I always thought Klesko was a jerk, and I could never bring myself to really like him even as a Giant.

I never had any good reason for this, except for the Braves uniform he wore as a young'in.

Re: Klesko done.
How many veterans in the last few years played the last game of their career in a Giants uniform?  Seems like we've had a lot of players that no one else thought could still play, and after the Giants dropped them, they couldn't get a job anywhere else.  Doesn't reflect very well on Sabean's judgment.  Off the top of my head...

Re: Klesko done.
Because that's what we do, and have done for years: get the retreads.

I've often thought that the management's thought process has been like this: Take a look at the All-Star roster from five or six years before, say maybe (player) has got something left in the tank, and give him an offer. More often than not, there was a pretty valid reason as to why (insert name of player) was a retread.

Re: Klesko done.
So we're definitely getting Mike Sweeney this year then.
Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base. Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base. Steve Kline is pretty okay. Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base.

Re: Klesko done.
Gallaraga
Joe Freakin' Carter
Shawon Dunston
Steve Finley
Mike Matheny
Todd Greene
Tim Worrell
Eric Davis
Russ Davis

You can go ahead an add Rich Aurilia and Omar Vizquel.  Jury's still out on Ray Durham to that list.

If that wasn't bad enough, there are still a few who were basically done but scratched around for another year (sometimes paid by the Giants):

Edgardo Alfonzo
Steve Finley
Jose Vizcaino
Deivi Cruz
Mark Sweeney
Jeffrey Hammonds

You are not allowed to count both Alfonzo and Finley.

Well, if you read between the lines, I'm not really counting either...  But I think we can all agree those two count double.
