Favorite baseball cards?

My oldest son has been collecting baseball cards for a few years now, so I figured he might be interested in seeing my collection. It was a trip down ye old memory lane for me, as I haven't looked at my cards in 10 years. I don't have any
extremely valuable cards, but I do have my favorites in the lot.

My favorite card of a Giants player:

Noosh was always my favorite player, and this always stuck out as my favorite card of his. Not the most valuable, not the best design nor photo, but this has always been on page one of my
Will Clark card binder. The picture makes you want to let him date your daughter of give him an interest-free loan.

Favorite non-Giant card:

I never really liked Griffey much, but as a kid collecting cards I had as many as 12 of these at one time, and I was able to sell them for +/- $80 each time I got one. I think I still have one left, and opening a pack of '89 Upper Deck and pulling one of these out was like hitting the jackpot for me. Same went for the '86 Donruss Jose Canseco, although that card was beastly in nature.

The picture makes me wonder why he is wearing his mom's wig on photo day.

Best card of a registered sex offender:
A few to pick from here...

So whether it's a Billy Ripken error card or a vintage Nap Lajoie cigarette card, I'm sure we all have a card or two that stand out as our favorite for different reasons.

Re: Favorite baseball cards?
Nice post.  I've been meaning to get my card collection out of my parents' house for a long time now, and I'm looking forward to going through my 300+ Clark cards, along with Mitchell, Williams, and a few Bonds, etc...

I have a lot of favorites, but this one was my first favorite:

I'm a Giants fan because my dad realized at a very young age that the Phillies suck.

Neither Kid nor Play available for comment.

Does anyone have an image of that Doug Jones card in which he's peering at a baseball on fire?  I remember that it was an Upper Deck card...late '80's/ early '90's.  I always found it curious that they used Doug Jones and his mid-80's heater with this sort of image.

Re: Favorite baseball cards?
My one and only really valuable card. Got this as a gift.

Got these as a gift for Mrs. NVSFG on her birthday. Had them framed and mounted. Hey...It's what she wanted ! Who was I to argue :-)

My adopted son Matt Downs. He's sort of like Bill Mueller without the "two flap" helmet.

Kuip looks pretty bad ass in that card for a guy with only 1 career homer.

That's because it's not Kuip, silly xanthan.

Don't we currently employ Child Molester #1 Ross Grimsley?  Isn't he a farm coach?

Re: Favorite baseball cards?
Why in the hell is the Rowland Office card in a protective baggie? Does being a sex offender spike the value?

Anyway, one of the first things that came to mind when I considered the thousands of baseball cards I accumulated from the mid-70s to early-80s is that Jim Kaat was in the same pose every year: mitt extended in the ready fielding position, hand over the mitt as though he just threw a pitch...with a big squinty smile. Ten straight years (I can't speak for the years before and after).

Didn't you used to be Barry Zito?

I have a Pete Rose rookie card. I'm not a Rose fan, and I'm secretly pleased that some day I will sell the card and make money off of Pete Rose, the guy who only cared about making money.

My favorite card would be a Willie Mays rookie card.

Re: Favorite baseball cards?
My kid brother gave me a Ken Griffey Jr card for my 12th birthday. That put me over the moon as I had a big-ass crush on Griffey back in the day.

I have one of those cards that has the real swatch of jersey and sliver of bat, too. It's Dontrelle Willis. The pitcher has the sliver of bat on his card. Ha ha. That's my second favorite card.

Democracy is lovely but baseball is more mature. BVCE supports Manny Burriss and SF Dugout.

Re: Favorite baseball cards?
I like this one. Got a handful.  I can't believe both these guys were rookies in the same year.  Pujols came out of nowhere... not even a top prospect, and of course Ichiro's history was all overseas and no one expected him to have that kind of a rookie year.

CTRL-F

"Oscar Gamble"

No results.

My readers fail. No, that's too harsh. I must have failed.

Oscar Gamble, for those who are unaware....

I was also expecting a Milhouse/Yaztremski reference by now.

Maybe I'm just getting old.

Well, let's see. I should mention Johnnie Lee----$2.50 on eBay, maybe signed for $3. I like the price.
