player from another team youd most like to be a giant?

regardless of how he was procured, or position he plays, or salary, or any of those other bothersome realistic roadbloacks. pretend he is dfa'd tomorrow (for whatever reason) and we trade them lou seal (or any number of hated current giants) straight up. who would you like to have in orange and black and why?

i choose you, ryan braun, with your super hitting attack and your million-error weakness!

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
  1. Alex Rodriguez
  2. This is not a difficult choice.
Rajai Davis: fast.

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
The only reason Alex Rodriguez isn't a clear #1 choice is because of his age, salary and to a lesser extent, position.

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
Good point, Natto -- and one I overlooked to a great extent.  I do think age is important though, meaning that the player one would most like to have is likely a young player with a long and productive future ahead of him.

If age were not a consideration, I would take Alex Rodriguez and play him back at shortstop, where he would dwarf even Hanley Ramirez.

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
position is very important. another outfielder would block four "prospects", and leave huge holes at first and third, but one of the best third basemen in the league could bring us to within a player or two of contending

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
Meh I'd rather have Miguel Cabrera.  He's 24 and has hit 35 hrs before, so it's not hard to imagine his fat ass hitting 50 at one point or another in his career.  I think he'll break the record soon after A-rod retires.  And A-rod's 32.  And a douchebag.

As long as we are in dream land...
Russell Martin after a soul was implanted into his desecrated body.  A solid, young, stud catcher  to team up with young arms.

Second choice is  Ryan Zimmerman.

Re: player from another team youd
I love Gordon as well, but should the Giants offer Cain or Lincecum as the basis of some sort of trade (2-for-1 or 3-for-2) for Gordon?  That's a steep price to pay, but the Giants really need a big bat.

by Lincecum Cain Then Pray For Rain on Feb 8, 2008 12:09 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Re: player from another team youd
I might consider trading Matt Cain for Gordon, but I'd have to research Gordon (and even Matt, for that matter) further.

Right now the Giants' starting pitching is in the ballpark of being able to win a pennant.  But their relief pitching isn't there yet -- and their hitting is the worst in baseball in some time.

I think he'll be a stud. Plus, there's all the great Eva Longoria/Tony Parker references we could make year-round.

Power leveling
Ryan Braun's nature as Young Infielder gives him the ability to improve defense by 30%. You'll just need to train him to improve his effort values. You might even earn a ribbon!

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
Most consider Jay Bruce to be the #1 prospect in the minor leagues.  Personally I am somewhat concerned about his high strikeout rate.

by sharksrog on Feb 7, 2008 1:36 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
He's 20 years old and played at 3 different levels last year.  I'm not that concerned with strikeouts when he's posting a .900+ OPS and a 48% XBH mark.  Sure, he'll K a fair amount, but he's still an absolute beast.  Despite all those K's he still managed to have one of the best seasons anyone had in the Minor Leagues considering his age.

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
All things considered, I think Bruce had the BEST season of any hitter in the minors.  There is a reason most consider him to be the best prospect in the minor leagues.

I am merely tempering my enthusiasm a bit based on his lack of contact.  He's still young enough to improve on it, and he's actually doing darn well without it.  But I worry a bit when guys' power/strikeout/walk ratios are out of whack, which I fear might be the case with Jay.

Re: player from another team youd most like to be
Miguel Cabrera. I don't care how much weight he's gained, he's only 24 and has posted a .313/.388/.542 career MLB line and his second best year was this last one.

If he can come out west and hit like that, I will personally buy him all the Double-Doubles and animal style fries he wants.

Baseball Refence's similar batters through Age 24 season:

  1. Hank Aaron
  2. Ken Griffey
  3. Frank Robinson
  4. Orlando Cepeda
  5. Hal Trosky
  6. Joe Medwick
  7. Al Kaline
  8. Mickey Mantle
  9. Andruw Jones
  10. Vladimir Guerrero

2x Ryan Howards

I'd like one Ryan Howard at 1B and another Ryan Howard in RF.  This would prevent teams from pitching around Ryan Howard #1.
