Lince tinkering with the delivery?

Chronicle article

"I'm going to start taking my windup a little more back," Lincecum said. "Going into the season, I'm sure I'm going to get back to it, going full bore. Today was just getting a feel for it and seeing the batters."

Star-divide

Other news from that article.

J.T. Snow will work at the minor league camp with Villalona on playing first base.  The organization thinks his body is better suited for first base.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
I'm very disappointed that Villalona appears to be getting shipped to first this early. It might have been inevitable anyway, but as long as it wasn't definitely inevitable he's just too young to start giving up on anything with him.

Poop.

As Lincecum goes, I know the Giants aren't supposed to mess with his delivery, and what he's saying doesn't sound too bad to me, but I still sure hope he knows what the heck he's doing.

Though I'm sure sharksrog will assure me that he does.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
If he was going to move over anyway, I guess it's better that he starts learning the position in his teens, from J.T. Snow, than in his 20's some time in Connecticut from Coach Notasgoodassnow. They might as well teach him some outfield while they're at it.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
"No, he said, nothing has changed. He was concentrating on other parts of his mechanics the first time out, namely his leg position and command."

He's not changing his delivery he's just working on getting his legs started in the right spot then he'll go back to his delivery.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
Oh, wait, was that in the article or something? You actually read those things?

I just make assumptions based on the titles of the Diary and the out of context excerpts. I thought that's how everybody did it.

Most of the time yes..
I do exactly as you.  I care about Lincecum though.  Hopefully if he's 4th in the rotation I can go and see him the 4th day of the season down in Milwaukee.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
Did anyone else catch this-

"Lincecum's throwing motion creates a lot of debate. On one hand, it adds to his deception and the force behind his pitches. But it also puts a lot of torque on his right leg. The right-hander has had tendinitis in the knee since college and ices it after he throws."

This is not a reason for concern, is it? Is it? IS IT?!!!!!

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
No, no, no. It's the good kind of tendinitis and the unnecessary kind of ice.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
Tim actually injured the knee in "Hell Week" at U-Dub.  Any injury is a concern, but to the best of my knowledge this hasn't been a serious problem for Tim.

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
I was hoping that my overzealous sarcasm would be countered by something like this. In actuality, I fear little for Tim's legs and the organization actually seems interested in keeping him from overdoing it over the course of a season (weird, I know! Cain is jealous).

Re: Lince tinkering with the delivery?
That sounds like a huge reason for concern, actually.

So I'm going to forget I ever heard it.

A prediction
Villalona

I know we have a hole at third base, and Villalona's a first baseman now and has been playing third base for three years and only got a cup of coffee in the majors last year, but didn't we sign him as a third baseman?  Why can't we put him back there?

PS-I can't believe Tim ascended into a higher plane of existence!  I thought he would wait until free agency to do that.  This is very disappointing to me.

Re: A prediction
You pick up a prospect when Durham leaves and trade him for Brian Wilson, whose value declines with a serious shoulder injury but comes back in a stunning Joe Nathan-like way.

So, good job on that, Future Natto.

-------------------------------------------

Actually he is probably more suited to being Thighler Walker's stunt double.

Any goddamn fool including even me with failing eyesight, child-like optimism and a belief in fairy tales, could see that el beacho bolo wasn't going to make it at 3b, anymore than Prince Fielder, Cecil Fielder, or Michael Moore, the first time pictures of the kid were released.

He's 17 years old.  "Fixing" your physique at that age isn't overly difficult.

I'm surprised the Giants aren't working on his conditioning more.

Re: Sounds like
To be honest, I was encouraged by the changes Barry was thinking of making last season.  He was talking about lengthening his stride, which would take pressure off his arm, which had shown signs of wear each of the past two Septembers.

Entering last season, Barry had thrown more pitches over the previous six seasons than anyone other than Livan Hernandez.  It appeared to me that Barry's willingness (even if only temporary) to experiment with a delivery that might take some pressure off his arm was a positive indication that he realized his career was heading downward, even if the Giants didn't.

Two positives from Barry's 2007 season:

First, he pitched VERY well down the stretch, reversing his pattern of poor Septembers the previous two seasons.

Second, he threw far fewer pitches last season than in the six previous.  His arm should be fresher entering the 2008 season than it has been in years.

Re: Sounds like
I was encouraged that Zito understood the need to get himself back on track, and encouraged that he seemed to be looking in the right direction. However, I hated, and was very angry that he kept the team in the dark (a purely selfish move designed to maintain contract leverage), and I found it fairly worrisome that he went about making the changes and adjustments without any professional guidance.

He had the right idea, but his methods were ass backward.
