Re: FIRST!
Seriously though, this is pointless.

There's nothing that can be done with what we have without suspending disbelief for a few minutes.  Our old guys are untradeable and our young guys are untouchable and there's nothing in between that's appetizing enough for a deal to get done.  The one name might be Nick Johnson; but, even that's going to take quite a haul from us.

so uh, sorry?

PRE-ACADAMEDY AWARDS MCCOVEN OVERHYPE!

which movies did you like/dislike.

actors/actresses?

score?

I'm an unabashed There Will Be Blood fan, though I thought No Country for Old Men was excellent as well.

I hope Ellen Page narrowly beats out Cate Blanchett for best actress.

Although the film was just good, I think cinematography, art direction and original score have to go to Atonement.

great book by the way.

I haven't seen everything but There Will Be Blood was the best movie I've seen this year and I want it to win everything. :(

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
Agreed. If nothing else, Daniel Day Lewis has to win best actor for that movie.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
In my alternative Oscars, Zodiac sweeps the art direction/cinematography awards; Kate Dickie takes best actress for Red Road; and Grindhouse and I'm Not There share the highly prestigious award for conceptual chutzpah.

TWBB still gets best picture, though. And Daniel Day Lewis is the Barry Bonds of movies. You want to spread the awards around, but honestly he delivers the best performance of the year every time he deigns to make a movie.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
Since having a baby, the only recent movies I've seen have been Juno, Transformers, and Cloverfield in the theater.  Rented Knocked up and Superbad (my wife cringed the entire way through both of those, and Superbad made us decide our kid cannot go to high school).

Since I'm a huge Coen bros fan, I'd be happy to see No Country win some stuff, even if I haven't seen it.  Otherwise, I'm pulling for Juno to win Best Picture, Optimus Prime for Best Actor, and George Michael Bluth for Best Supporting Actor.  And the monster from Cloverfield for Best Actress.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
Juno overcame terribly grating dialogue to become a movie I can watch over and over and over and grow to love it more each time I watch it.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
I haven't looked at the list of nominations, but I remember reading that Beowulf was eligible. I'm just hoping nothing like Happy Feet winning in 07 happens again.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
Man, Beowulf was such a mixed bag. There were some things they did with regard to the idea of storytelling that was great and some sequences that were just plain awesome, but then another half of the movie that kind of just fell completely flat (not to mention the intermittent rubbery human effect).

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
I'm actually wanting Persepolis to win over Ratatouille. I loved Ratatouille, absolutely loved it. But Persepolis just blew me away. It was so beautiful and sad, relevant and moving.

I won't be upset if Ratatouille won, but yeah. Persepolis. Mind blown.

Re: diary hijack mayhaps?
I am EAGERLY awaiting Persepolis on DVD. I've seen fewer Oscar movies this year than just about any other year in my life. I feel completely unqualified to talk about almost any of it.

Re: Brian for a day...
I would give Dave Roberts away, even if I had to pay every cent of his salary, so that Bochy would be forced to play at least ONE young outfielder.  I would also go back in time and decide to train Schierholtz to be our 1B rather than Ort.

What?  You mean Sabean doesn't have a time machine?    Then screw this game, there's nothing we can do.

Re: Brian for a day...
I would trade Randy Winn, who I think could bring a very good prospect or two good ones.  That would open up some outfield playing time for the youngsters.

I would continue to play Dave Roberts, hoping to build some trade value in him.  If Dave got off to a strong start to the season, the Giants might actually be able to trade him at full salary.  Right now I suspect they would have to eat a lot of money -- and wouldn't get a lot in return.

Oh, I also would trade Bengie Molina if I could get value for him.  Maybe if a contending team's catcher suffers an injury.

And of course I am waiting for the day when still-young southpaws Noah Lowry and Barry Zito pitch well enough to be traded for something of value.

Re: Brian for a day...
Although I'd prefer to DFA Roberts (assuming no one is foolish enough to trade for him), since I mostly want an OF gone I'd agree with Roger and try to trade Winn. For whom? Maybe a AA catcher with solid defensive skills.

I also have to agree with trading Molina, Lowry, and Zito for whatever might be available that helps us.

Hahaha. Somehow I missed the last part, and I was going to rip you apart (playfully of course; like a lion) for not sharing the knowledge that Sabean had a time machine and was holding out on us.

It's weird, this year the only one I've actually seen is No Country for Old Men. Usually I've seen almost all of them by now, but this time it's what I like to call "saved on Netflix city."

Re: Brian for a day...
-Trade Winn. Tell Boch how its gonna be: Schierholtz starts in RF, Davis plays LF/RF against lefties, Roberts starts 3 games a week against righties to build value for a mid-May trade (unless we can give him away now!). Oh, I tell him Capellan makes the roster. I hope I remember.

-Trade for Nick Johnson. Molina/Lowry? Sanchez/Molina? One of them and a prospect? One of them and two prospects? I'll know this, because I'm Brian Sabean, Guy With A Phone. (You can have Aurilia, for free. Cuz I like you.) If I can't get that Johnson, I'll settle for Dan.

-Deal for Damaso Marte. Hopefully they'll take quantity over quality. Wilson/Marte/Hennessey/Walker are the front end of a nice pen the next couple years.

-Make the beers cheaper at the park, and add some variety. Can I do that? If not, the bastards can fire me. Hey! New idea...

Solidified bullpen, corner IF bat that brings the O from terrible to really bad, and the kids get more AB's. Most importantly, there's a better, cheaper variety of beer for those 90 losses.

Trade Matt Cain to the Reds for Votto, Cueto and three A-ball players including Todd Frazier.

If I could make any additional moves in that period, I would DFA Roberts, Aurilia and Durham to make sure Bochy can't play them.
