Semi-OT: Play GM with me

I just had my teeth pulled, and my elbow sliced open to remove an abscess/drain stuff out, and I'm bored and drugged, so humor me. With all the wonderful deals and not-deals that Sabean has made recently, I'm sure I'm not alone here. I wanted to see what you guys thought.

Every 20 transactions or so, I see one that I go "where were we on that one?!?!1." I know how much everyone loves to play GM (my second favorite play-with-yourself game), so what deals would you have made in the last few years?

I'm not talking hindsight deals (giving up nothing for Matt Holliday) think more along the lines of "why didn't we take a flier on Player X." Fantasy lineups are welcome, if you have a couple you'd like to get out of your system.

The rules: No undoing bad trades, no undoing free agent signings unless you have a reasonable alternative (has to make sense... Sabes tried to get Soriano and Lee, but they didn't want us!), and try to keep it mostly in the last three years or so (the losing/"rebuilding" years). Or you can just ignore my rules completely. I don't want this to be a clone of Grant's hindsight-aided team (http://www.mccoveychronicles.com/story/2008/1/24/102632/069)

Examples: I really wanted Ty Wigginton and Wily Mo Pena last year. Both were had for reasonably cheap, and I was angry. If Pena pans out, we could have had a nice young nucleus with Wigginton, Pena and Frandsen. I would have dealt Winn, especially if I got Pena, to get some AB's for the kids and get this rebuilding thing really rolling.

Auigh! I got nothin' for the armchair GMing (except: don't trade Lowry) but you have my sympathies on the medical stuff. Nooo fun.
There are not enough characters to say what happened here. I'm lucky to be here and looking forward to Giants baseball ... that's all I can say.

The medical stuff is no big deal. I guess the real problem is that the drugs made me think people would post on my diary. If no one posts on here, and someone with the powers to do so has the time, delete this diary!! I'm so ronery, so ronery...

Re: Semi-OT: Play GM with me
I would have gladly posted, but I have a really really short memory for this kind of stuff. I can't even remember that trade I think we should have been in on this year. I know it exists, though....

Yeah, sometimes I'm the same way. I know which one you're talking about, that one low-risk, high reward deal that we shoulda made, it's too bad Sabes passed on it.

Re: Semi-OT: Play GM with me
Wily Mo has a monster bat (I witnessed him hit it over the Monster and took a couple of big bounces to the Mass Turnpike), but he can be prone to hack-at-slop syndrome as Petey Happy. Plus his fielding is horrible.

Re: Semi-OT: Play GM with me
The hack-at-slop and crappy fielding scared me a little, and 29 other teams, but he's 26, I think his patience would improve marginally with regular playing time, and he already has a career OBP 28 points higher than Feliz. The power potential is enormous. We'll see this year how many he can jack with 500+ PA's, and if he can improve his defense by being out there more. I don't root for many other players, but I hate seeing guys with such potential ride the pine. Unless their on the Dodgers.
