Putting the F in FSN

Just a little place to vent. FSN Los Angeles ruined my night...nay...they ruined my week by running Classic Baseball tonight. Game 6 of the 2002 World Series. Even though i just caught it for a split second, the vomit that I could taste in my mouth was enough to last me all week. F you FSN. F YOU!

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I have watched a bit of that tonight as well.  I was at that game, and it is legitimately one of the top 5-10 most painful moments in my life.  Maybe I am just a masochist, but I feel like watching that will help me to exorcise some of those demons, like visiting a dead parent's gravestone or something..

Yeah, glad I am not the only one suffering through this. Dusty just gave Russ the game ball...ugh!

Were you watching the Disney channel?
Cause if I remember it right that was a 5 game series.  And then the teams stuck around to film a straight to video release...

I'm pretty sure the entire American League went on strike that year so the NL Champ Giants were crowned World Champion.

I was watching right through the top of the seventh. Then my wife wanted to watch Project Runway and I didn't argue.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
To be honest, I would LOVE to watch Game 6 of the 2002 World Series again -- although I might turn the game off in the seventh inning.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I had hoped to forget that night. I tried to go to bed early, but couldn't sleep, so I went down to the basement, half-drunk and raging, and hurled styrofoam wine shippers at the unfinished walls. My housemate's girlfriend came down to find me, taking refuge from a lovers' quarrel that had turned ugly, and the two of us watched Australian comedies until 4:30 am.

God, what a horrible night.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I was living in L.A. at the time, and the 24 hour period between Game 6 and Game 7 was pretty damn painful.

Game 6 was a big punch in the gut. I tried to be optimistic about Game 7, but in the back of my mind, I had a feeling it was over.  The worst part was driving back to my apartment after the final out, hearing the celebration on the radio. Then for the next week or so, I tried (unsuccessfully) to avoid any mention of the Series, baseball, or sports in general. Video games were my friend that week. Thank God for GTA3 to take out my frustrations of rally monkeys, Joe Buck, and Sandfrog.

There, I vented that out. Time to repress those memories deep down again.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
My son came over and even though he was still just 17 at the time, I had a bottle of champagne ready to go. It's still there. My wife had to work at our daughter's school that night for a party, and I went to pick her up at midnight. She had asked someone at the school the score and had been told "last time I heard it was 5-0 Giants." When she came to the door she was expecting to see the biggest smile she had ever seen on my face. The second she saw me she knew the Giants had somehow blown it. It's still almost impossible to believe.

Damn this post to hell...damn it all.
Watching it again on TV is like watching your hot ex get married to another guy. You know you F-ed up your once in a lifetime chance to make it. It seems unbelievable that you even had the opportunity, now that you're jobless, haven't showered in 2 weeks, and are living in a van down by the river.

Re: Damn this post to hell...damn it all.
to take it one step further it's like watching your Ex, marry and have 4 kids with Brad Pitt and be on the front of every Magazine saying how much better life is now. then every year around October, the Media replays your breaking up and goes over every stupid thing you did to make her dump you. Yea, it's kinda like that.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
My then-girlfriend invited over some dork from work. Nice guy, but not really interested. He was more interested in being social, and around the third inning, I just started ignoring him.

Right before the seventh, I was thinking, "My god. Should I go out and get champagne now? Or would that jinx it. No, of course that would jinx it. I can't believe they're going to win the World Series...."

I was very polite and well-mannered when they lost. I was dying inside.

I watched Game Seven by myself, and I threw all sorts of things around the house that night. It felt good. Well, except for the "losing the World Series"-bit.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I wasn't even mad after game seven. People were calling me all day saying we could still win that game but I never thought for a second we had a chance. I was numb the entire day, and numb watching game seven. They could have awarded the series to the Angels after game six and I wouldn't have complained. I hope every Angel player on that team drops dead!! Who was their catcher, by the way??

Re: Putting the F in FSN
Yeha, that was pretty much my experience too.

Even when the Giants took that 1-0 lead in like the second inning, I didn't believe at all that they could get it done.

Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base. Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base. Steve Kline is pretty okay. Nate Schierholtz cannot play third base.

Sorry, it's all my fault. ;_;

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I remember in the 6th inning being so angry i didn't dime up the 500 dollars for the single seat 4 rows behind the Giants dugout. CUT TO: 9th inning, Thanking God for literally saving human lives that night, because i would not have been able to control my actions, that combined with the length of the rally monkey's arms...i envisioned being able to choke at least 3 Angels fans per rally monkey. Yes i have and am still receiving professional help since that evening, when He Who Must Not Be Named, ruined my life.

Re: Putting the F in FSN
I was fishing around looking for video(s) of that Series , this was prompted by once again seeing that very moving 2002 Ollie Tan vid that always brings me to tears - has anyone else seen that?
Apparently Amazon has a number of the MLB - produced Series ones - starting at around a buck(!) plus shipping...I HAD taped every individual game but of course taped over them quite soon thereafter - just no objectivity to this here Victor - but I thought it would be nice to watch Barry wallop that first homer or chuckle hollowly through a 16 - 4 rout , alternatively feeling good and bad. Like fighting with your sig , tying one on , then sobering up - the problem returns , more refreshed than YOU are.
What's available is apparently an hour - long condensation of highlights of the reg/postseason , and you know they'd slant the production toward California...Anaheim...WHEREVER...and no matter whether they did or not the outcome will never change.

I'll pass. Go Giants.
