Holy renovations, Batman!

The SN redesign just ravaged Lake Merritt.

Jinkies.

I hate it.  The threads are waaay messy looking, even if the underlying engine seems to be pretty well designed.  Resist, Grant, resist!  Be the holdout!  Because we also hate CDs.  And combustion engines.  Just port the whole kit n' kaboodle over to the UseNet.

Eh...
I dunno a lot of things look like they were just added to draw in the people that go "ooooo shiny website".

One of the things I really liked about this site was that it was basic.  Very basic.  You posted, we replied.  We posted, we replied.  We didn't post quick pictures and check our stocks on MCC.

Re: Eh...
Major content differences:
  1. There will be real-time updated stats and box scores hosted on the site. Basic stats for now, but more stats once they're comfortable with the network.
  2. In addition to FanPosts (diaries), there will be things called FanShots for the noodles who like to post one-sentence diaries (FanPosts) or just a YouTube link.
  3. The comments will auto-refresh while you're in the thread. Tres cool. You can turn the option off, but it seems like a badass addition to the gameday threads.
  4. The open registration will encourage discussion.
Those are the main content changes. So basically, you're saying "One of the things I really liked about the library is that it was very basic. I checked out a book, then I returned it. Checked out, returned it. Now the library has DVDs and internet access."

And you so don't have any stocks. Don't try and act like you can buy and sell us.

One thing I'm liking..
Is that the gameday threads will automatically reload.

I just hope it's not too overpowering on systems and internet connections.

And another thing, are we looking at this change soon?  Or is this still a few weeks off?

Re: Holy renovations, Batman!
Seriously. That's like the metaphor for this whole change.

"Diaries" makes no sense. This is a freaking sports site. I use verbs, adjectives, and crappy metaphors to swing from trees and grunt. Y'all can respond in kind, but you have to use...diaries? What in the hell are those? Are you commenting on a roster move or telling me about your crush at improv camp?

But once everyone gets used to diaries, it somehow makes sense. So much so that people get offended when they aren't called diaries.

All I care about is that I can schedule gameday threads well in advance. That, and I love being able to use one username across the whole network.

The downside is that it's going to be easier for trolling folk to wander over. The banning stick shall be fierce and merciless.

I've been using it for five years and have very few problems with it. Lots of features that require extensions in Firefox are already built into Opera (mouse gestures, ad/pop up blocking, RSS reader, and more). On rare occasions I come across the odd page that doesn't work well in Opera (since it isn't as widely used), but I have Firefox as a backup. If you want to try out Opera, I can direct you to some sites/blogs with tweaks to further streamline and customize the browser.

Re: Holy renovations, Batman!
You could use a synonym for "out machine" instead, like "pedro feliz"...

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Pedro Feliz? Another swing and a miss
Dear Out:

If you were thinking the same thing, I'm afraid the name's already taken.

Meh. There are things about the new look I like, there are things about it I don't like. I'll get used to it.

Hopefully the redesign is worth the 300 million McCovey Bucks price tag, although I'm pissed we taxpayers get stuck paying for the cost overruns.

Re: Holy renovations, Batman!
So when we switch over will we have to deal with that SBN message that says "Hai guys, I'm ur neighborhood SN representative I'm herr 2 tell you all this crap u already know about Teh New Blogging"?

Because I already know all that crap.

Ava-what?
So is the bold new world of avatars going to change everything? I signed up already and posted at AN just to test it out. It's weird seeing myself in those Harry Potter glasses.

I mean, what if howtheyscored ends up with a really lame avatar or something? It could change everything.

I'm sure it'll all be fine, but I'm totally going to complain every step of the way and demand my money back.

Re: Ava-what?
No need to worry. I already uploaded my avatar and while it is thoroughly lame and vaguely generic, it is most definitely not "really" lame.

Maybe we could all use the us mail and send each other letters instead?

Re: Holy renovations, Batman!
Those mass mailings of my "Bengie Molina: San Francisco Giant" posts are going to cost a lot of money, but it's worth it to not have to look at a website that is different from how the website was.

Sorry, your old username is unavailable. Please choose a new one.

I thought it was based on seniority? I've been here since day 1...and I think McCovey Chronicles was the second SN site...damn you "Doug" from AN!

Well I reserved my name..
We'll see how it looks, from browsing AN a bit it doesn't seem too bad.

I just like to be a grumpy old guy complaining, sorry Grant.

Re: Well I reserved my name..
I tried reserving my name, and I'm not sure what happened. All I got was a weird email from Google - are our new overlords actually vassals of Google?

Everyone on the Interwebs is a vassal of Google.

I have a couple of friends who are/were? at Yahoo!. I wonder if they survived the cuts.
