NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
i’m wondering if the Marlins meet with teams such as the Giants and Cubs and spike their drinks with 151 before chatting about potential trades. that’s the only explaination how they are getting close to making multiple trades with little for a lot.

when I saw this on the MLB.com Hot Stove Blog a couple of hours ago my first thought was “I wonder when MLB Trade Rumors will put this up and it will become a fanshot?”

Since Sanchez for Cantu Rumors Refuse To Die
What additons to either or both sides of this could make it a good deal for the Giants and still something the Marlins would do?
Would adding Hermidia be to much to ask?

I still don’t think I’d really want to do Sanchez for Cantu/Hermida.

We don't need Hermida
We do need Cantu in some sort of crappy parallel universe.

What About Moving Hermida To 1B?
Think of job sharing C/1B/3B between Molina, Sandoval, Cantu, and Hermida?

Why would we want to move Hermida, whose bat isn’t even really even good enough for a Corner outfield spot to first base?

Only For 2009 And Only Because He Is More Of A Sure Thing Then TI
he can return to the outfield mix in 2010 when Winn’s and Robert’s contracts expire.
Al that said I personally would still rather just keep Sanchez and have it be Schierholtz that joins the 1B mix in 2009. I am still struggling to understand why the Giants seem unwilling to look at 1B as a place where Nate can get some ABs.
I made the above suggestion in an attempt to make Sanchez for Cantu more balanced.
Regardless of the roles do you think getting back both Hermida and Cantu for Sanchez would be balanced and fair to both sides talent wise?

Maybe, but I’m still not interested in doing the trade. Hermida and Cantu are not players I want the Giants to acquire

Hermida is a good defensive OF. If we did acquire him, we would need to play him in the OF.

When Everything Is Said And Done
I am betting the Giants end up with a 1B that is coverted from an OFer. I am betting none of these trades happen and the Giants sign Pat Burrell to play 1B.

Add 1 Jeremy Hermida. Subtract 1 Jonathan Sanchez. Then I’ll do it.
Maybe.
..so allow me to present Tim Lincecum and Matt Cain as two sweet, sweet bottles of warming hooch.

It seems like everyone here hates the idea. If that’s the case, though, why do the commenters on SFGiants.com think the Marlins are stupid for even considering it? For example:
this in my opinion is a really bad deal we need a guy like cantu we got rid of willingham and jacobs there is no need to get rid of him for a pitcher that hasnt shown much. if we get rid of cantu i dont think we have a shot at winning this year. so lets get the long term deal done with him before its to late.
If this Marlins fan is so against it, maybe it’s a great trade for the Giants.

Don’t put much stock in those Jorge Cantu/Edwin Encarnacion/Hank Blalock rumors. None are a defensive fit and none are worth the price of left-hander Jonathan Sanchez.

There is no way that we’d get fair value for Sanchez right now. Keep him.
